It's time to replace my front CCB rotors at 24k miles. I did two track days at about 80-90% of threshold braking. My dealer was able to do the CCB, pads and labor for $10k, but usually $12k.

However, I do private lessons at the BMW Performance Center West and they just learned from BMW there are brake driving grilles that can be removed for additional cooling on the track.

I believe the brake cooking vent is on both M5/8 M5/8CP models.

The location is lower inside wheel area, just undo the lower clip.

Do you know if that's only on Competition versions? I have a base model and didn't notice the vent you're holding, but I wasn't looking for it either.

Not present on all models. May be removed 100% of the time, but the louvers were to keep debris from hitting the brakes at 100% velocity.

And converting the brakes to metal is possible. Not perfect, but possible.

Do you know if it's on the LCI Comp? Out of town so can't go in the garage and check at the moment

It wasn't on either my 2018 or 2022 M5 CS. Unknown for you.

No.

This is a choice. Maximum traction or minimum tire wear.

I do this A LOT. My last three events for the year are now set in stone, for FIVE events this year. 8 track session each event, 30 minutes each. That's two hours of track time per event, and thus ten hours this year.

You do track alignment, kiss the shoulders of the tires goodbye. Street alignment? Wear is consistent along the surface.

There is no plastic person with a giant carboard check at the end of my events. So the only trophy I get to drive home is the one I brought in. Tire wear is one of the things I sacrifice probably a couple seconds a lap for. My last set of Hoosiers may have gone 32 heat cycles before they corded. My buddies say no one they know of has made a set last longer. And I had a hoot doing it.

Long answer for a short question. Helpful to you i hope.

You running it at VIR? If so, I raced 750cc super stock and super bike motorcycle class there a lot in my early 20’s. Loved that place, very special.

VIR, best track in the world. I can get up at 5am in my own bed, and be standing in the paddock at VIR at 6:30. If it weren't for VIR and my track habit, I'd drive a plug in hybrid or fully electric car and nothing else.

My other tracks are NJMP, CMP, Mid-Ohio, National Corvette Museum, Dominion Raceway, and Road Atlanta. I'm doing Summit point next month for the first time. I hope to do Daytona and Charlotte's Road Courses before I meet my maker.
