Did you take off the chrome before painting? I took off all the chrome, then painted with powder paint.

Steve, whoever coated that for you didnt do a right job.. that should not be happening with regular paint after a week let alone with powdercoat.. you need to strip original tips completely.. if powdercoater doesnt have access to acid stripping then you can sandblast it completly to bare metal.. prime and powdercoat.. many powdercoaters will do it cheap and just lay powdercoat on top.. thats horrible.. thats same as rattle can over chrome..

On a seprate note, i've had same tips coated on my X5M for nearly a year with zero issues and 5K miles.. exhaust tips do not generate heat like downpipes..

Like Adris said ceramic coat is best solution but not mandatory..

From what i researched these were BMS old style tips that they discontinued since they replaced them with current design tips. If anything this thread helped them more leftover inventory lol.

It doesnt look like they designed slip on tips for F90 yet but i wouldn't be surprised if same modification process would apply to their current tips for F80/2/3, granted these are $279 vs $79 most of us paid.

Below is link to current tips if anyone wants to experiment.. i don't see why same concept would not work.. same diameter, dimension of tip etc.. if anything their newer tips would hide the F90 locking pins better and since these are not angle cut they will look straight cut no mater how you install them

Chris from Street Solutions (christo88@comcast.net) has built carbon tips that would fit the F90 M5, but you would need to cut the pin or it will stick out more. The tip that he has is 106mm long and 77mm inlet and 93mm OD. (not on his website yet, but he custom made a set for the F90)

I cannot vouch for his work since I decided not to get the tips from him (I am not certain about cutting the stopper pin), but feel free to contact him directly.

You would either have to cut off the pins or machine a slot into the tips for them to fit properly, they would have to be measured, marked, and the slot put in precisely on each one or they won’t look right.

I wanted to thank you for putting this up. I purchased the tips for the F8x from burger when they were clearing them out and saved them in case I bought an F90 which I did. Was my first mod to the new car and it came out great thanks to the DIY.
