I noticed the other day I have LCD burn in on my instrument cluster.

Is this normal? Anyone else experience this?

You can see the highlighted areas that are in question.

I may be completely wrong, plus this is only a partial reply, but found in the settings an option, whereby (I'm poor at explanations) the dials show recent activity like this - as in where you were on average on the last outing.

I'm away from home and the car, so can't tell you where on the options, but somewhere in vehicle settings.

LCD cannot "Burn-in" it's just the graphic design.

Yes, or perhaps an average?

When I get back I will take a look.

OPP officer - "Mr. Ragazzi, do you know why I pulled you over today?"

Mr Raggazzi - "Why no officer, do tell?"

OPP officer - "I see on Bimmerpost and can now confirm by looking at your speedo as we speak that your average prior speed was 120-180 kph... that's a little fast now isn't it son?"

Mr. Raggazzi smiles - "Ahhh.... I spend a lot of time at the track officer...."

My guess is that this highlight is to mimic light hitting a metallic bezel.

Confirmed - area highlighted is independent of prior speed (I did varied speed trials x 3) assuming delta t is not long. It appears to be a “visual feature” per stealth70mde’s comment above. However, the most compelling supportive evidence is that SpeedyDad is confident enough on the above to put a chicken dinner on the line.

While it's technically true LCDs cannot "burn in" they do experience degradation from long time static images. AFAIK, it takes much longer.
