Thoughts on iPhone 11 lineup?

Full disclosure: I'm an Android user myself, but I do like my first gen iPad Pro a lot, mainly for the huge screen and how it defaults web pages to desktop mode. The upcoming updates to iPad OS are a huge step in the right direction, so I'm trying to at least give myself the benefit of the doubt that I'm coming at this from an unbiased angle.

But I just read the highlights, and honestly, even for Apple this seems pretty under par. The one thing that should have been a given would be to make at least one model available with a USB C port. This appears to me like the laziest iteration of the phone yet.

Any opposing opinions? Curious if anybody is excited for this lineup and why.

Meh.

For me its just a phone, a utilitarian tool on which people can annoy me.

Probably a different story for my 19 year old son who always has the latest iteration of the iPhone.

My first take is stunningly expensive. And I agree with Red Bread about 5G. Phones at these price points heading into 2020 should have 5G.

this iPhone not the one has much attention, especially if you re taking into account the usb c and other factors that everyone criticizing.. things feel like going downhill still i guess.. a genius ad campaign can change things..

but for default desktop mode is not a choice of iPad Pro mainly.. websites you re visiting decides that not iPad.. according to aspect ratio and resolution.. you can find perfect websites for iPad Pro user experience on Google i believe..

Cool. Is there a feature or reason relevant to the phone that made you so certain in your decision? Genuinely asking with an open mind.

Right now these are very slightly evolutionary. I don’t see the point in upgrading this year. In fact I still recommended the Xr to a friend.

I have an iPhone 6s and I, once again, don't have a compelling reason to upgrade.

Besides, why on earth are they still selling iPhones with 64GB of memory? Just to show you a "low, introductory" price where you're then forced to yet again fork over more money just to get a measly 128GB or 256GB? F'in idiots.

i have a 7. still works fine and i'll keep using it. it gets really hot sometimes, so if it ever takes a dump, i'll upgrade. i'm mainly interested in the camera, which i've been told its really good.

Also, ask yourself what you're really missing in your current phone? Everyone expects Apple to come up with this revolutionary new stuff. And what happens? Apple comes up with technology and features that no one asked for.

This is the main reason I got the Galaxy S9 last year. 64GB internal with a 128GB SD card that I store all my media on, hopefully to instantly transfer to my next phone also with a SD card slot. I get that cloud storage is the future and everything but I just like having my media locally. It always works and is always in highest fidelity/quality.

I also hate subscription fees for something I can manage myself. Idk, different philosophy I guess.

To this point, I could see 4 useful features that would compel me to switch, or at least consider:

5g
USB C port
Expandable storage (not going to happen)
In screen Touch ID (also not likely to happen)

I guess it sounds like the Galaxy s10 but still, Apple usually implements features a little more robustly, and I believe any of the features above could have been very well received additions to the lineup.

I write iPhone software. I have to test on the latest chipsets for my own piece of mind. Plus to be honest, I like them so it's a good excuse. I'm very happy with my iPhone.

But I'm no Apple Fanboi by any stretch. I write software for the iPhone using Xamarin on Windows, because I seriously hate Mac OS with a passion. I would rather edit a file in Windows check it in to source control check it out on the Mac and then see if it compiles than work on the Mac.

Oh - and I should add - the eSim is a HUGE bonus for me, but this was in my XS as well. I went to NZ, bought a local SIM, slapped it in, and I could contact my NZ friends and family on that, plus have data while roaming around NZ, and yet still be in touch with my US friends. That "dual SIM" feature is huge for me.

That’s as good a reason as any. Going back to my old MacBook Pro feels so archaic. OS X didn’t age well in my opinion. I used it in college since it played nicely with the university’s Linux servers for compiling and checking in my homework assignments, but after windows 8.1-on I never looked back.

Also, C# is bae.

I have a 256gb X and I'm using 21.1gb and could easily clear 5gb if I needed to. Literally everything is in the cloud. Why would I want on board storage?

I bought the 256gb for the moderately faster performance. But in hind sight could have easily saved the money.

Pretty idiotic if you're so insecure that you need to validate your choice because someone else won't like it.

Not sure about you, but I take a lot of picture and videos (have little kids). But I don't want any of that in the cloud. Why would I pay to use Apple's cloud when I have everything stored locally? Hence, I need more than just 64GB of storage of my device. Plus I travel a lot, so downloading a few movies and some music for when I'm on the road is nice also.

Also, how is the 256GB version faster than the 64GB version?
