I deleted my phone and re-enabled it in my 2019 F90 thinking that would fix the problem...then it occurred to me...my subscription has run out. No more at apple car play. (I only use it for Waze)

Maybe floor mats will be optional in the future as well. Gotta cut cost somewhere...

I have a 2019 that I purchased in late August 2018. BMW will turn Apple CarPlay into a subscription service beginning with its 2019-model-year vehicles.

The German automaker currently charges a one-time $300 to add Apple CarPlay capability to navigation-equipped BMW models. Going forward, though, navigation-equipped BMWs will come with CarPlay at no charge for one year. Following that first year, customers will need to pay an annual fee of $80 to maintain the relationship between their Apple device and their BMW's infotainment system.

I think the OP's point (which I agree with) is when you spend this much money on a car, BMW shouldn't be "nickle-and-diming" its customers for $80/year just to maintain certain functionality in the car.

Yep. It's less about the money and more about the fact it expired without any notification. I thought I just lost the sync with my vehicle then I remembered that they had moved to a subscription model.

To be more specific I rely heavily on Waze for traffic and of course to have awareness for speed traps. So, losing the functionality after buying this vehicle does matter...

Will search around today in order to find out how to renew the subscription.

I agree - it's petty to charge for this. They should consider a similar subscription to keep the climate control working beyond first 12 months; that'd have a larger market penetration.

Since CarPlay does not integrate nav into the HUD I haven’t used it in my X5M. I don’t plan to use it in the M5C either. But, I agree that this is not well thought out on BMWs part.

If you lease, it's actually a better deal this way. $300 one time fee(on 2018s) vs 1st year free plus $80 x2 on a 3 year lease. I recall hearing that BMW was offering a deal if you wanted to do a long term but am not sure on that.

I get it. Still surprised someone cares enough to write a thread about it. I get mildly frustrated about a lot of things in life. Making threads about it seems like a waste of time. I guess responding is too, but I guess I’m bored too.

Anybody else can't get Waze to talk on CarPlay? Miss the boy band alerts...lol I did the beta version of Apple 13 IOS and I think that has messed everything up. Hoping all is fixed with the general release later this month.........u guys getting Waze to talk without using a cord with your phone?
