2020 M5 Comp Tires... (Which brand are they shipping with?)

Are the 2020 M5 Comps shipping with Super Sport tires or P Zero tires? If P Zero, can I specify in the order to put on Super Sports at the factory?

I don't want P Zero tires and would rather not have to buy them later if I can get them from the factory.

Thanks!

You can't specify what tires you get. My Comp came with Pirellis on 20" wheels. It's pretty much random if you get Michelin or Pirellis on the 20" wheels. The 19s come with Yokohamas I think.

P.S. The Michelins are Pilot Sport 4S, not the Super Sports.

Yea, I meant to type 4S. Car and Driver recorded better times with the 4S over the P Zero and I don't understand why BMW won't put the better tire on the Comp package by default.

In my experience, P zero handles heat much better than the ps4s on a track. The PS4S starts to burn tread really badly and unevenly with even pieces starting to fall off after 4-5 minutes of driving hard. The p zero is able to be abused much worse with less damage. That's just my experience with heavy cars and street tires on track, but pilot sports have always been more suitable for comfort and shorter moments of aggressive driving than full on track abuse.

Interesting. That's really good to know. I guess if my car comes with P Zero's then I'll just keep them until it's time to get new tires.

people are always crying about the pzero's and how inferior they are to mpss. Regardless, they are perfectly fine for daily driving, (even in the rain, crazy i know that BMW would give proper tires for the rain), and highway roll racing in Mexico. Definitely over-exaggerated..but then again everyone here is a racecar driver.

That being said, my fathers noncomp came with pzeros, and my buddys comp came with Michelins.

I have read a lot of the arguments for and against the pzeros. My car has them, and so far I think that they are a great tire. I have no issues getting the car to hook up, and haven't noticed any wheel spin at launch. However, my experience with the 4s is limited to my F10.

This! All I really care about is that I get good traction, the tires hook-up well on launch, and they don't wear out prematurely. Comfort is subjective, so I don't care if they're harsher than the Michelin's.

My non-comp M5 came with Pirellis on 19" wheels.

Thanks!
I picked mine up today and it came with Michelin Pilot Sport 4Ss: 285/35/20 rear and 275/35/20 up front.

In my experience, BMW seem to split the difference between the two brands.

For those of you saying the P-zeros are good, or good enough, or the same, or you don't know why folks gripe: I ran the two back-to-back on my RS7, my E63S and one of my F90s and a Dragy will quickly explain why folks bias Michelins... it all depends how you use the car.

My comp came in with P-zeros from factory. Luckily dealer had another comp on the floor with same Y-spoke wheels that had Michelins. They were able to swap out for me. Just see what the dealer has on the floor when you take delivery and if they have identical wheel with the tire you want it shouldn't be a big deal for them to swap.

in regards to hooking up i don't think you will have any issues regardless of the tire brand you get. On a rainy day i decided to see what drama would be had by flooring the car from a dead stop and taking a turn at the same time. absolutely no traction loss, x-drive is amazing. traction control didn't even turn on and i went through 1st and 2nd gear.

My comp came with P-Zero's. I don't mind them at all. No issues thus far.

Reviving this thread. Anyone else on their experience with the P Zero Pirelli tires?? Interesting to see if these indeed are pretty good tires, for the m5 comp.

When Autocar switched their long term test M5 from Pirellis to Michelin they thought the Michelins were not quite as good in the transition from grip to losing grip. Overall they preferred the Pirellis.
So I suspect there isn't a massive difference.
Have PS4S myself and they seem fine.

My car came with P Zeros and they're fine. This is coming from a guy with a rather poor opinion of Pirellis in general

I am going to switch to PS4S once my 21" wheels arrive, but I think the P Zeros are doing just fine.
