The 2020 M5 Edition 35 years also receives the newest Live Cockpit Professional with the BMW iDrive 7 operating system. The latest-generation of the iDrive comprises a high-resolution digital 12.3” instrument cluster display behind the steering wheel and a 10.25” center display diagonally across. The system offers many hardware upgrades including new haptic controls on the iDrive controller, an advanced tablet-like touch interface, stunning visualizations, and the largest displays in a BMW yet. This latest system perfectly blends the strengths of previous iDrive concepts with the modern ways in which people expect to interface with their popular electronic devices. The multi-modal approach of the iDrive touch controller, large touchscreen center display, cloud based voice control, and gesture control allow users to interact in the way of their choosing.
Stands to reason the 2020 model will get iDrive 7.

If you go in to a dealer the internal BMW webpages (that your sales person can show you) indicates IDrive 7 is part of the update. I was just in yesterday talking about the '20 M5.

Thanks. I was hopeful the 20s would have laser lights but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Did I misunderstand the bmw memo that came out last month regarding the M550; it stated new engine, LIVE cockpit, and laser lights. Just assumed that would be the case for the M5 as well...

The laser lights are not an option for the USA... at least not yet. Tried to order a 2020 on Saturday...

It’s better high beam performance only. BMW advertises the light being thrown out to 500m or some such distance. Pretty nice performance. The blue laser just excites yellow phosphorous inside a lens and that’s how the large amount of light is produced.

Variations in features

The laser lights are interesting, they have them oversees but BMW is probably knee deep in US DOT regulations and it hasn't been approved...who knows. I'd love to see the new steering wheel if thats happening.

Placed my official order yesterday for 2020 with all packages and BW speakers, he said production hasn't started so I don't have an ETA. He said he would keep sending me updates/pics as he got additional info but didn't have a picture of the alleged new steering wheel.

2020 production (assembly) started this week. Also, other than user “somer” posting about it, where else is there mention of a new/different steering wheel?

I asked my dealer the same question. Some of the sales guys there that are apparently in tune with what's going on said not to expect it on the 5 series before the full model rework. ie not even on the LCI.

Obviously this is not firm.

With anti-idling laws starting to pop up, I'd be very surprised to see remote start gain much traction on newer cars...

Thats the only place I heard it, I haven't seen anything else out there mentioning it. Emailed the dealer yesterday, he said he doesn't know anything about a new wheel.

My 2020 was produced two days ago. I’ll report back when I see it in a week or two here in Deutschland.

Someone mentioned a new shifter which doesn't make sense. The pics of the 2020 Jahre model showed the same shifter and wheel.

The M8 has a different shifter. I’d have to think that makes it’s way into the M5.

LCI maybe, but they need to keep some differences other than shitty brake feel and 2 less doors between the 2 cars :P

I see some people complaining about the face lift the M5 is gonna get, do some people really still not like the look of the new 7 series? Have you seen one in person? With M sport bumper, black kidney's and accents? The presence on these things when they're spec'd out right in person is ridiculous. The M5 will look monstorus.
