personally I wouldn't buy this.
I agree with your assessment, although the construction would resist the impact from a large object. I intend to add stainless mesh or perforated metal over the framework, of a thickness able to deflect just what you're worried about. Not sure how to attach, and whether inside or outside, but it'll become clear when I get into it.

The Bentley won't brake down and fall to bits , that RR will, here in the UK they have a shocking reputation for frequenting service stations.

Turner Oil cooler guard

Just installed the turner oil cooler guard and found the item to be excellent quality but was perplexed with the large openings. So I added a metal mesh under that and installed it on the vehicle yesterday. Very easy install. Just thought I'd share.

Hope that's stainless or aluminum although not sure how effective aluminum would be for this purpose

Incredible. I really hate that for you. I’ve blown oil filters out on the dyno due to excessive oil pressure and dumped 8qts at 7500 rpm with zero damage.

I really hate that happened.
Given an "accident", insurance should pay $60k bill for new engine. I would then consider a "custom build" at a fraction of the cost.

From here on it has been an absolute head ache, as
Car was parked on driveway , and was not accessible to a tow truck. I’m still in shock this thing can’t be put in neutral without cracking the engine. Anyway I won’t bore you guys with the details, but we
Managed to get car down the driveway and onto a flat bed. It is now with BMW, but no idea of the damage done just yet..... engine might be fried! Who knows, I stopped the as soon as I could, and engine was not seized when I stopped. Will know more tomorrow. I’m so upset, I can’t believe the location and vulnerability of the oil cooler .
Digging up an old thread but curious of your outcome. I have a punctured oil cooler but didn't notice the leak until the next morning. No oil pressure light and the engine will turn over. Having it towed for service but hoping to just replace the cooler.

The CRracing one has smaller openings so no need to diy the mesh

I have a stainless steel grille finished in black from Zunsport fitted to my M5comp
I think it's a good compromise between price, easy fitting, protection level and cooling reduction.

Buying some mesh, cutting to fit and securing like the zunsport would be easy. Laser cutting a plate like the others do provides protection from larger objects and perhaps scraping on curbs or at least gives more audible notice when scraping starts so you can stop if just creeping into a parking place. None will save you from hitting a deer or getting in a front end accident.

The Zunsport one is pretty thick guage stainless steel and has a frame around it with tabs that have screw holes to attach.
I have the full set on mine with all the front radiators protected.
Driver assist pro sensor still works fine.
