Notification - Emergency Call System Malfunction?
Anyone had this appear before? I had driven this morning to Starbucks for my morning coffee...everything was fine for the 1 mi. drive over there. After getting my coffee and starting up my car, the notification popped up and said I need to take the car in for service. I assume it's some software malfunction as there was no need for the emergency call system to be activated.
Curious if anyone has had this before and how it was resolved.

I haven’t seen or heard of this before; curious to know what happened.
Ps for being only 0802 in the Dallas area and it’s already 103 degrees; that’s damn HOT! Wonder if that could be a factor... |

That picture was taken in the evening at 8:02pm (20:02), but the notification popped up earlier that day when the temp was only in the upper 70s. Don't think temp has anything to do with it as it's been in the 100s for several months now here in Texas. Assuming it's just some stupid software issue, but I'm taking the car in later this morning to have it checked out.

Yep, mine is doing the same right now. It's the second time it has happened. Last time it went away on it's own after a few days. Something to bring up at the next service, but I'm not going in just for this.

Apparently its a dead battery in the "fin looking" telesponder on the roof of the car. They had to remove the headliner to get access to replace the battery. My SA said it's been a pretty common fault/error they've seen across the BMW model line lately.

Yes...no more than 2 hours of actual labor time. SA said removing/reinstalling the headliner is the most intensive part of the repair.

Oh man. My ‘03 Audi had issues with the backup battery for the friggen on-Star Emergency module
Audi never fixed that issue. Replaced on-star module twice. It made on-star light on overhead console RED instead of eye burning green so I was ok with it. LOL. Now BMW put the friggen backup battery in that fin instead of in an easy to access spot? W T F?? “Engineerig Excellence?” No! Not so much. |
