As many others have said it's all about speaker break in + setting the equalizer up properly.
I feel Volvo XC90's B&W system sounded better than BMW's.

B&W in my F90 does sound great but OP is right it's missing a deep bass some may desire. Additionally, my Navigators Revel sound system sounds better in most cases, I wonder if that has to do with the acoustics of the larger cabin. Never thought a Lincoln product would outdo a BMW, regardless of the partnered speaker product.

Adjusting the equalizer will help a TON with the B&W. The out of the box settings sound awful (to me). I also have a Jeep Grand Cherokee, and the Jeep system has WAY more Bass. As an EDM guy, that makes a big difference. The BMW B&W definitely has more fidelity and clarity, but I still can't make it beat the Jeep's Bass power...

Just so you know, more bass doesn't mean better quality. LMAO. It seems that some people attribute bass with quality.

You're not wrong, but you're not right either lol. Sure more bass doesn't equal better quality but the idea is if I want more bass, I should be able to have it in a $100k+ car. I figured this group might understand that concept, with 600 hp on tap most of us would accept another 50-100hp if BMW offered it. The idea isn't that it enhances the quality, the idea is basic American consumerism dammit, if I want it, why can't I have it?

I had the Harmon in my f10 m5. The b&w is far superior. I owned and sat in plenty of Chrysler products, not the new Jeep I admit, but I have a Hard time believing anything over there has a better system than the Harmon, let alone the b&w. I’ve sat in a few cars recently that have decent bass, but the highs sounded muted. I think it’s just a preference thing, but as far as accurately playing back music, it’s tough to believe any of those systems could be better.

You can, that’s what aftermarket is for. Did you think that maybe most m5 owners aren’t bass heads? It makes no sense to offer a big bass stereo and sell a few a year. Seems obvious. Go to a good aftermarket installler and drop in a couple 12” kickers and an amp, problem solved.

TLDR: Sound system, like car, is awesome but... I want more.

I read a different post a few days ago from someone who thought the entire idea of purchasing a $100k and then being nickel and dimed for CarPlay asinine.

In my Navigator, also over $100k, the only decent way to play the rear seat entertainment is to purchase an external Bluetooth to FM modulator.

I didn't say I wanted club ready, standing in front of a stack bass, I said it feels lacking. Since I bought it with the optional audio system, I just wish it wasn't.

The entire point is, I paid for a premier vehicle that is supposed to be the pinnacle of its performance in every category. I'm not 19, I don't want a sub box preventing me from fitting my golf clubs or luggage when I travel. Just a little more punch is all I want

BTW don't get me wrong, this is one of the few cars that's kept the "what's next" itch away for this long, I f-Ing love my M5!

This is how I’m currently set up. First set to Studio. Then adjust the treble and bass. Then go into the equalizer settings and adjust. It’s punchier, and if you want just a little less bass I’d recommend leaving the EQ settings alone and dialing the bass a notch back.

The 200Hz in the EQ sends too much bass in the door card speakers and make them distort even at mid volume.

200Hz is the 3rd from the left in the EQ picture.

I put the 200Hz to -4 or -5 but I crank up the 100Hz pretty high up so that only the subs under the seats produce bass.

Very true also that the system sounds much better with time as it breaks-in.

Agree with EQ settings and break in making a difference. I found the biggest game changer in how awesome the B&W is was when I started playing Master quality tracks from Tidal. It has to be through CarPlay or wire. No BT. I even noticed sounds I've never heard before in some of my favorite songs. That's how crisp and clear this system can be. Helps to turn off ASD when you really want to hear your audio.

Can you post a pic of your settings? I'm a bit clueless on the audio side.

Does the M5 come with a cord to plug your phone or iPod into? I assume you can buy one aftermarket?

No, it doesn’t come with the charging cable. Just purchase a USB -> Lightning Cable (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...ZJ0H0Q76BVNP7F) and plug it in the inside the center armrest compartment and/or in the 12V plug (using the twin USB adapter that’s provided) in the forward center compartment in between the cup holders.

Haha nope! I was on a project that week that had me up at some crazy hours. Let's just say I'm not upset that week is over.
