I made the switch from a 2019 M5 Comp to a 2022 M5 Comp. Here's my thread on the pros and cons of it: https://f90.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1857281

I believe the biggest difference folks on this forum have mentioned is the damper and gearbox shifting speed, which in my opinion, you can't really tell the difference. I've raced an lci comp and we were neck and neck. It comes down to personal preference. I do however love the lci taillights, so I retrofitted those and kept my '19 comp.

Yes, the dampers are the big difference maker. The new M5's ride is much smoother and more compliant. That being said, the pre- LCI M5 has a better exhaust note.

Pre LCI is the last of the traditional BMW headlight designs. LCI headlights look like they came from Audi or a 2016 Jaguar XJ. Some ppl like them. I've owned BMWs dating back to 2001 and the new designs are moving away from what was a traditional BMW design. I'll stick with the pre-LCI as the performance differences seem to be minor as I have no issue with my 20 M5Cs ride quality, shifting, etc.
A lot of ppl like the non traditional BMW look with BMW performance. For me, not so much so I'm sticking with the 20 M5C for the foreseeable future...

I bought my 18 M5 (F90) new in August of 2018 and I still own it. I did a purchase of the vehicle and it is paid for. January of this year I spent some seat time in a 21 M5 Comp and I could not really tell a difference between my base M5 and the M5 Comp. Certainly not worth starting over with a new car payment. I felt no difference in comfort while driving on the roads in SOCAL. I do not track any of my vehicles and their use is limited to driving on the streets. Maybe the differences are apparent between the two vehicles while being pushed to the limits. I do engage in spirited driving from time to time and my 18 M5 handles everything splendidly. I have never felt the suspension become unstable but again I am not pushing the M5 to the limits on the local roadways. I personally like the pre-LCI headlights and dash. I do like the new tail lights of the LCI M5 and I may install them at a later date.

Do a poll and see how many people went from LCI to Pre-LCI and vice versa and that should tell you everything. |

Lci looks way better than Pre-Lci, I have had both so I am not biased to one and anyone that says pre looks better is lying to themselves. Also lci is a better car than the previous one, better suspension and more road feel, also it drives better on bad roads. The Pre-Lci I would be scared to go into the city.

I drive a pre-LCI. The LCI has by far the more aggressive front end. The lights and the more pronounced front end (the extra depth to the grill and the flatter front) in relation to the lights makes it look a bit more purposeful.
Given the depreciation curve on these cars. It makes more sense to me to buy one a few years old than lease or buy a brand new one and the Euro regs mean that the LCI is much more muted in sound than the original. But the stronger looks are worth the trade-off for me. Either I’ll consider updating the front end of my pre-LCI at some point or I’ll trade it in for an LCI model in a few years. I think those who prefer the pre-LCI to the LCI are in the camp that like the M5 to be a sleeper. Whereas the those who prefer the newer model like the added aggression. |

love everything about the LCI internals...just can't accept the loss of the iconic corona lights. To me that's what screams BMW. Now you have to ask, is that a vw? kia? ford? the head lights just look more generic now. and they don't look like glaring eyes which i always had an affinity toward. only thing really that has me hesitant about getting an LCI vs just keeping mind at lease end. Problem is i really want to go CC next go around. first world problems i guess.

I prefer the pre lci exhaust sound, the front lights and the dash board gauges.
On the lci I like the stoplights only.
