Car “Lurching” Upon Braking/Downshifts

My 2022 M5C is only three weeks old, and during the first week I never noticed this happening before, but since then there is this shudder/lurching forward when almost at a complete stop or when the gears are downshifting as you’re coming to a complete stop.

I observed as best I could if it may be a hard downshift of some sort (regardless of what M mode the car is in), by ensuring the gear number was visible in the cluster and seeing if this phenomenon occurs precisely at the time when a downshift occurs. It actually does not, and the whole thing could best be described as though the car has a vacuum leak somewhere causing it to lurch forward (it doesn’t, but just “feels” that way).

Is this notchiness normal in these cars, and if not, then any ideas?

Thanks!

That’s just how the ZF8 is, the shifts from 1-2 are in general much much more lurchy than all of the other gear shifts, it’s normal to have that. I’ve been in other cars with this tranny that feel similar. It also skips gears (at least in the display) when downshifting in auto al the way to stop so that could make it more lurchy than manually downshifting yourself. I’ve noticed the upshifts from 1-2 are also pretty lurchy, especially when you aren’t WOT at a high RPM when you’re shifting.

Another thing to note is that the instrument cluster updates gears visually before the gearshift is actually completed, so you may be between shifts from 2-1 for example and it will say 1 on the dash.

No No No thats not right, I have had all 4 F90 M5's from 2018/19 to my new 2022 M5 5 weeks old, that is not right and sounds like a mates car and he had the gearbox software updated to cure it.
None of my F90 ever did that.

My 21 M5C does the same thing. Quite surprised on the lurches while coming to a stop because I came from an M3 with DCT and that downshifted smoother.

Still don't see any advantage to going to a true autobox in the M5 other than a cost saving to BMW.
