Dinan Resonator Delete and/or Axle-Back Exhaust Feedback

I've searched the forum and read through most of the exhaust mod threads but cannot find any feedback specifically for the M5 Competition. Has anyone with an M5C done the Dinan Resonator Delete and/or the Dinan Axle-Back Exhaust? I want the option of a more aggressive sound, but really need to maintain the exhaust valves to keep it close to OEM sound level on cold start. My neighbor already calls my car her second alarm clock! Thanks!

I have read that taking the resonator out & straight piping is much louder than xpipe. I am waiting on my M5 comp to arrive. Really wanted to add the M performance exhaust but it isn't available right now. Remus axle back sounds really good too. There are a few videos.

I'm curious as to how much cutting is required. Dinan advertise it as a bolt on option but I assume that's after you measure and cut off the oem section. Which I'm contemplating tackling myself.

Hey Maverick, would you mind keeping me posted on this if you find out. I’m thinking about doing the same and would really like to know the answer before I get over my head

Yes, I spoke to a Dinan tech. If you’re doing both the resonator delete and the muffler they are designed to mate up. So you just need to cut the OEM exhaust ahead of the resonator - so two cuts, one for each pipe. Same thing if you’re doing just the muffler, except the cuts are after the resonator. The tricky one is doing just the resonator because you need to do four cuts.

I'm getting the resonator delete on my M5C when it arrives in a couple weeks so I'll definitely be posting photos and sound bites. It'll also have the Eventuri CF intake system installed so the sound may be a bit deceiving though.

So where would you take your car to have the resonator delete done? I just recently moved and it was a very knowledgeable friend who used to help me work on my old cars. For something like this would you take it to a custom shop, a muffler shop, any high end mechanic?

So the shop that is doing my wrap accents has also expanded their service offerings over the years to include aerodynamic, electronic, and performance installs. I definitely trust them plus they're one of the leading shops for high end and performance vehicles here in the valley (Arizona).

You bring up a great point though….you definitely gotta do your homework and find not only a reputable and capable place but one with expertise and you being comfortable with them.

Any muffler shop should be able to do the work.

Ya sorry I found this out after watching some YouTube videos. It's semi DIY. Just need to measure and cut. But I'll be taking to an exhaust shop nonetheless. Truth is the x pipe is on back order so I'm thinking of just going with a straight pipe sometime this week as I'm off work. Then if I don't like it then once the x pipe arrives I'll just have that put on. Otherwise I'll cancel the order or just sell.

Let me know what you think about the straight pipe.

Hey Trevor,

Are you just straight piping to the resonator back all the way or what? I want to do a straight pipe instead of the X I think, but I’m not sure what muffler/exhaust parts I need

Just dropped off to get the resonators removed and I asked if they could just cap that bypass tube between the mufflers. Fingers crossed. I'll report back this afternoon. If I like it and there's no drone I'll cancel my dinan order.

No he means just remove the resonators and replace with pipe. No need to buy someone's x pipe and install.

I did the Dinan Xpipe resonator delete. The car (2018 M5) got louder outside and more refined sounding, with almost exotic undertones.
However, definitely quieter inside the cabin!
