Set a standing 1/2 mile record for a manual F1A car of 178 MPH. I did not intend this car to be a race car - just an all rounder. And I'm really happy with the power level and overall driving characteristics of the car now (drives like stock and power comes on in mid to top end so traction is actually pretty good with Nitto 555R's). It's like a turbo car.

Makes about 860-870 whp.

By the way - I'm impressed you squeezed an 11.4 both at 3000 ft but also with the stock PS2 tires - which are terrible for drags.
You are going to hurt a LOT of feelings in that ride. Killer.

Love the C6 ZR1 - looked into getting one. I am the first to acknowledge that the C7 Z06 has many faults even though I own one lol. I blog about it all the time in fact. That said - it is in its own category - and can be relatively quick. But I digress - why the problems with the C7Z?

The C6 is a much more aerodynamic car (as the C5 is much more slippery than the C6) - it's Cd is much less than the C7 - which even without its horrid aero making it much worse - the shape of the C7 itself still has a poor Cd. It was meant to create downforce. In general it is poor at high speed anything.

This is why it is even - stock - with the C6 ZR1 to about 3rd and the ZR1 starts to leave it hard in fourth once the speeds get over 120 MPH. C6ZR1 is also faster in the 1/4 on average as much as C7Z fanboys will cry it isn't. 125 MPH is about average for the C7Z - while the ZR1 is about 128 MPH on average (with 130-131 possible). Removing the horrid fixed C7Z aero adds about 1-2 MPH on average as an example (depending on the power level of the car).

The other main issue is the uber tiny roots-type 1.74L "blower". Add a poor engine bay design for circulation - and you have timing retardation even during a 1/4 mile pull (personally experienced that). On a hot day - people have reported losing power just driving around after some WOT.

Finally - direct injection - which is pure evil for modding. DI is about when to spray fuel versus how much - and that fuel has to be there when it needs it. There is a reason why the new ZR1 has both PI and DI stock. Port injection cars are just so much easier to mod.

So - having tried to do a FBO build - which was over-spinning an already tiny, roots, SC - and creating even more heat - I gave in and replaced the SC with an F1A PC. Car works well now - but what a road to get there.

Great car otherwise.
That is the C7ZO6 biggest problem, that shitty little blower. You are correct with everything you said. I just felt for what the C7ZO6 was it should've been so much more.

You are correct. I have always said the new ZR1 is what the C7Z should have been (I actually call it the C7Z 2.0).

I also get it that the Z06 was always intended to be a road course, NA car - and someone at GM thought "hey let's use a blower for the power we need - just a really small one you can barely hear" (which you honestly couldn't). Roots are the worst for heat production - and a tiny, higher rpm version is just making bad - worse.

Most people who mod are getting rid of them altogether - which is a shame. The ZR1s new 2.65L is going to be a monster - but I heard GM has locked out the ECU - so Tuning will be a challenge.

Much appreciated - I really enjoy this car. But like I said - I didn't enjoy how I had to get here lol.

Back to the F90 - the fact - stock I wasn't in the 10's or 127-129 MPH with my C7Z and the M5 is capable of both - weighing 4400 lbs, 16 feet long and with four doors (and a baby seat lol) - is just insane to me.

We live in awesome times and I am very grateful to be able to be a part of it.

They'll get around the ECU just like MOPAR tuners have. That C7 ZR1 is an absolute monster. Cam, long tubes, mid pipe, CAI, pulley, and tune and it'll be lights out.

Hopefully with FBO + Tune can add another 100 to 150 HP/TQ.
I would be happy !

Agreed. The M5 is amazing because of the all around Package it offers. That's why I got my M3. I wanted 4 doors, luxury, refinement, and power. I got tired of playing the horsepower war. You've got a beautiful car that every person here would love to have.

I still miss my E92. It just needs little more power and torque for the street.

Satin/frozen colors on BMWs are the ultimate. Almost doesn't even matter what color. That texture is perfect for our cars. Love it!

Per IND,

Their car: bone stock, post break in, 93 octane.

Our best run was in 5th gear/AWD/Sport Plus - a surprising 625 whp // 608 lb/ft torque. In all settings power was linear, difference between Sport Plus and Efficient only being about 15hp. We did one run in 6th gear/RWD/Sport Plus and hit the speed limiter at about 152mph/244kph, power maxing out at 593whp // 578 lb/ft torque.

I've seen a few comments mention how nice it is to be able to get 93 octane. You can get regular pump gas at 94 octane pretty much everywhere where I'm from.
