Hmm. This is on my short list for the next car since I am consolidating the M4 and x6 into one vehicle next time. I hope it does not disappoint.

Man if this is true it seems the F13 M6 really will be my last M. The M division has become such a disappointment.

The M5 was never really an "M" car. Its too big. A real M car is something you can take straight to the race track and feel right about it. The M5 made all the right numbers but felt too big on the track and too wild on the street. This new one should be the ultimate daily driver! All weather traction, MASSIVE fast 0-60, all the usual luxury bits. Guys pushing hard for RWD only should really be driving M2/3/4 instead. Does anyone really want to drift in an M5? Its just not a hooligan car. Its a VERY fast luxury sport sedan.

I guess my days exploring this part of the forums is over. AWD shit. Sucks because it really looked good.

Also, didn't the head of M say this wasn't happening? What a cocksucker.

LOL! Hahahahaha. So it's basically a propped up M550i xDrive now. Amazing.

Newsflash: Audi and MB already excel at making fat, powerful, AWD, slushbox sedans. So now WHAT THE HELL IS THE POINT OF A M5?!?!?! BMW HAD THE ONE DISTINCT OFFERING IN THIS SEGMENT AND NOW YOU’RE THE SAME AS THE COMPETITION, WHO ALREADY DOES THIS FORMULA BETTER THAN YOU.

The E34, E39, and E60 vehemently disagree.

I think horsepower in a bmw is such a strange meaningless number. The f80 m3 had a very small jump in horsepower, but performance was much better... with a small increase in horsepower but weight saving, and better traction with the new system performance numbers will be improved. A Challenger Hellcat has 707hp.... m5 will be faster with the weight saving and better traction... give me the m5 anyday
What was the increase in torque tho?

That is cool! It's about time BMW goes to an AWD M!

Burnout machines and highway queens are for muscle cars and Supras.

That doesn't make sense. Traction control on drift mode?

Yea but I assume the Alpina uses the M550i engine which is basically the same engine as the M5, however the parts put together greatly differ. The Alpina is basically a tuned M550i (462hp stock) whereas the M5 is 600hp stock, thanks to better and more durable engine parts.

You could say the Alpina is already at its limits with those 608hp, obviously the M5 isn't.

Why wouldn't you have a DCT for the next M5? Not trying to be funny - I honestly don't understand why you'd have the ZF in this car.

While the ZF might feel pretty "snappy" in a 320i, there should be a distinct difference in an M car from that perspective - perhaps they can achieve that with the ZF, but seems like a strange decision to me.

600 BHP + AWD = Beast though...the car will be really really fast.

+1

LOL at all the haters. In all speculation, you may have the option of RWD w/ DCT or XDrive w/ZF8. Regardless...there will be a lot of boxes to check off, including a competition package...or leave some unchecked.

M XDrive in saloons is going to be a reality...it will happen...get used to it.

It will be rear-biased-xDrive, but it will seriously push from the rear, it will be outstanding.

Relax people, don't worry about the 600 HP that they claimed. They are leaving room for competition package
