Snow tire dilemma
I have a set of rims, and I'm waiting to get some snow tires on them. Problem is that tire rack doesn't have them in stock and they are sick expensive (Pirelli Sottozeroes). As an alternative, I was thinking of the new Michelin All Season 4.
Do you guys think I can get away with the Michelins in the Northeast? |

Not sure if you were running 19 or 20s, but a few people including myself have gotten the vredestein wintrac pros which have gotten great reviews and are winter performance tires. Going to run a 275/35/20 square setup -reasonably priced at 265 each.
Also tirerack does have the sottozero 3s in stock at 285/35/20 but the price went from 321 to 373 each recently, and they only have 2018 production ones currently, if you care about getting new “old” tires. |

My BMW dealer here in Portland, OR was able to get me a set of stock size (20") Pirelli P Zero Winter tires. These are supposed to be high performance tires with snow capability, i.e., higher performance than the Sottozeros. They are however very expensive at $400+ per tire. Sadly, Tire Rack does not list the P Zero Winter in our sizes.
I have not installed them yet as it is still quite warm here in Portland, but I expect to change over around Thanksgiving. |

Check Michelin Alpins.
They are a fantastic tire. Also the 19” 706 rim and tire package is like $750 a piece mounted, balanced, tpms, ready to install with Alpin 5s on them. The warehouses are loaded with them, and given the prices and availability of tires, it’s a great deal. 19” 265 square. But then again, I’d put black steelies on my car for winter. Don’t really care. |

I have been running BFGoodrich g-Force COMP-2 A/S PLUS All-Season on my stock wheels since last fall with zero issues. Ran them through some snow and they worked great.
I usually swap back to the summers in the spring then back to the A/S in the fall. Costs $100 to have a mobile tire service come right to my office and do it in the parking lot. $200 a year to swap is better than a whole different set of wheels, IMO. Tire rack is showing a set of Michelin all seasons in stock for just over $1,000. https://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireS...SortCode=60101

All seasons can work with AWD but aren’t the best choice. We had an 08 X5 4.8i that was decent with all seasons here in NH. Our 21 Cayenne S has all seasons but they were a bit scary in heavy snow last winter so I bought a set of wheels with proper snow tires. For my 18 M5, I bought a set of wheels with snow tires.

Search for part number 36-11-0-003-049 You'll get lots of choices from various online sources and dealers. The best prices I found were in the mid $700s each. I went and looked at the wheels when they arrived at my mechanics, and they look really good for painted chrome. They are the same 19" wheels I had on my '18 M5, but they are painted and not machine polished.

we get on average 40 inches of snow and the terrain here is hilly. they will last roughly 11-12 k miles for the rear tires , so make sure the tread is not low. I did same thing with E63 S for three seasons , and the tires were AS continental DWS |
