I think it's pretty unlikely that you will have any issues from this even if someone did take it on a wild ride. Maybe I'm just a little OCD, but I'd be more annoyed than anything that someone that doesn't own the car and didn't pay a dime out of pocket got to joyride in a car that you already own.

To me it's like some other dude took your girl out on a date, and BMW should have policies in place to prevent this on its M cars especially.

I'm sure the miles you drove in Europe, had a much greater effect on breaking in the car, than any harm it might have incurred during the additional 12 miles. Also, while this car is special to you, the people involved in the logistics do this all day, every day, with every kind of car, and I bet they just want to get it done, so they can go home.

I'm the guy that had to meet the transport trailer at the dealership when my car arrived, and then personally remove all the wrap. I also insisted they not wash or gas it up. So, I know obsessive inside-out.

Don't worry about your M5, it's fine.

I would make a big deal out of this and ask to explain exactly where between the drop off point and the loading point they could have needed to drive 12 miles. There may be a perfectly reasonable explanation but it needs to be given. I don't buy the don't stress argument. Same reason why I always park far from other cars - so I make sure there is no damage as opposed to stressing about getting may car damaged while it is parked.

I spoke with several people at BMW North America and they said for Euro delivery 4 to 10 miles is a standard amount of miles to be put on a car coming back over to the USA. Now, why my car had 12 extra miles put on it they could not tell me. I am not happy about it, but I am blessed with the best car that I have ever owned so all is not so bad.

Don't mean to downplay your worry but I really think you are overthinking this. It is really 12 miles after all, not hundreds. As long as these 12 miles produced nothing you can see or feel, it shouldn't make much difference.

OMG this thread is freaking useless! I just had to say this. Dropping the car off in anywhere else but the airport drop off location in Munich means that the car will be driven to a place where they will load it to a truck with other vehicles. The car also have to go up and down several trucks and from the ship container to another truck. Please stop stressing over 12 miles and getting all these crazy ideas from other people. Be glad that your car made it here without any damage or something of that sort. That's just my 2 cents.

You are wrong about that. I dropped my car off in Vienna Austria and the manager there said it would not be driven any miles. I specifically asked them that when I gave them my M5. No worries, I am not stressed about the miles. I am disappointed that I was told one thing, then to see that was not true. End of thread.

The point is not that you should be concerned about damage but that you shouldn't have to wonder why your car was inexplicably driven 12 miles. Someone obviously knows the answer and you deserve to hear it.

It's not really a big deal but finding out the answer definitively should also not be a big deal.

maybe someone took it for a couple power slides to complete the break in. or maybe took for a few laps at the ring redlining all the way.
