You will always find people that will spin things in a negative manner, because they think being contrarian offers them instant credibility, and makes them sound more knowledgeable and wise than those with arguably much better credentials.

Yep. The F90 was on my short list until I drove it at M Track Days. It is quite possibly one of the most boring cars I have driven.

Yeap, I actually had to look at speedometer to know how fast I was going, no feeling, no noise, no feedback. Just fake noise that doesn't match your foot.

I was ready to order but only way to describe it was Numb after every drive.

So I ordered a Porsche 911, now the

So I guess they never tested the Giulia Quadrifoglio at this Lightning Lap before?

They did last year but it went into limp mode. And Alfa declined to participate this year.

It’s a piece of crap, but a sexy piece or crap.

Edit: I wanted to say, it is very hard for an average Joe to get close to the times posted by these guys, they are very good drivers. My PB in the LL track configuration was only 3:05, just could not get it down to the 3:00 they got in the M3. Time to try again this fall in my new ZCP.

Also worth noting that a 0.2 second difference over the E63s is far from a conclusive victory. Just means the cars are dead even. Different driver different day those results could flip flop any given lap. These cars really are both brutally fast (that mustang time though... yowza)

No doubt. MT says the M5 "confounds expectations," is "unbelievably agile" and "a ridiculous amount of fun" and forum members be like... it's numb.

I would suggest locating the pedal on the right, and then giving it a good push.
I can jump off a bridge and go faster than the 2060 H60 M5. Doesn't mean it's going to be fun or exciting though.

I think what these members mean is that the M5 doesn't feel like a true sport car even though it's extremely capable. It feels like a powerful sport sedan which can lean a bit more luxury or a bit more sport depending on settings. I wouldn't use the word "numb" to describe it, but it definitely feels more numb than something like a Porsche Cayman GTS. The M5 gives me exactly what I wanted. If I wanted a "real" sport car, I would get one. Actually, I had one and sold it because I wanted something more comfortable and more practical (but still fun-enough to drive).

You must be talking about this one.
What an epic commercial and still one of the best to come from BMW.
No fancy stats or specs. Only results.

That said, it's certainly a welcoming piece of news that the F90 clocked the fastest time for a sedan at Car & Driver's Lightning Lap.

It's quite a feat being able to engineer the M5 to be that much lighter than its competitors, even with the addition of the M xDrive system.
Classic!

Bmw isn't concerned with feel anymore. Not surprised this one doesn't have any. I've driven the m2, m3 and m4 currently available, and all 3 bored me to tears. They were fast, but all of them missed the point.

TLDW;
I will also add that the jaguar Xe S feels way more fun to drive than the m3, even though their S model lines up price wise against the 340i. Anyone who thinks bmw is currently the "ultimate driving machine" clearly hasn't visited a jag dealer. I love my 2007 bmw

TLDW;
That’s easy. Short track LS vs Long track VIR. All the cars are on both lists except the High Wing Jag. I don’t think you can buy it.

Okkkkkkkk. Just read the Jag had Cup 2 tires on it and only 300 will be custom built for pre orders. Killer ride, but not exactly a production saloon.

Curious about what he meant about standard mode vs sport. What exactly was in standard, other than obviously the suspension w/ the mention of yaw...

I thought they were referring to the 4wd mode:
4wd (this is the one they are calling standard) <---
4wd sport
2wd

Interesting that would be the faster mode. Maybe the more aggressive fwd helps pull the car out of corners? Not sure.

Speed and lap times are really just marketing tools. For whatever reason, it seems to work. A car is much more than how fast it is, though, and that becomes evident a few months into ownership. I don't think BMW makes engaging cars anymore but they certainly make fast and competent ones. .. Just to add my 2c to the discussion.

That said if I had the excess dollars to spend on an M5, I think it fits a nice role as an overkill daily driver. For an engaging drive though, I wouldn't want a modern BMW.
