Question Start stop function

Want to ask if you guys are using start stop function on your m5s?
I am using it and getting about 6 to 7 % improvement. 18mpg to 19mpg.
That translates to 400 dollars of savings and reduction of emissions during my 3 yr lease.
Does this negatively effect the engine? Reduce engine life?

Technically I should not worry about engine life coz I will return the car at the end of lease term.

I turn it off in my other cars but the Auto Stop/Start on the M5 is the smoothest and fastest I’ve experienced so I’m mostly happy to leave it on.

To each his own, but I don't like start/stop and turned it off before leaving the dealership. I've tried the setting, but didn't like the little shudder on the restart. No matter that it's almost imperceptible, I do notice it. And it's really annoying in those situations where it turns off the engine, but your stop is so short that you need to move again right away.

There is propaganda out there saying start/stop won't affect engine and starter life, but I don't buy a lot of it.

A non start-stop vehicle might experience 40k to 50k starts during its lifetime. Using start/stop, the vehicle might experience 10X that amount! While the engineering used to design start/stop systems might anticipate 500k cycles, why stress the system that many times if not necessary?

You might not care since you're on a lease, but I'm keeping my car long term, and I don't view $100 or so in annual savings as worth the risk of a wear/tear repair on a vehicle as expensive as an M5 that might be experiencing a lot of city start/stop driving. On a 3 year lease, I see why it might be worth the savings to some people. But honestly, if I was spending $60,000+ on a 3 year lease, the $400 in savings wouldn't be worth the small aggravations of the system.

Here's a fairly objective article describing some of the wear and tear issues and engineering attempts to overcome them:
Long Term Impact of Start/Stop

Cheers,
B B

Always off, but I do enjoy shutting it down at a drive-thru, just because it sounds SO good when I start it up again.

Depends on my mood. When I'm out and roads are mostly open, I keep it off. When I'm stuck in Atlanta traffic, on it goes. No need to waste fuel sitting in traffic going nowhere. I turn on all the assists in traffic (driving, hold, steering, start/stop, etc). I've found my commute to be pretty tolerable now. Car can be a luxury cruiser when I want, and supercar when I want.

You can save more money by driving it slow. Lol That completely defeats the purpose on sports car, you want to let her rip and enjoy

You can get it coded.
I haven't code F90 since US already off by default, but it should do-able.
