No wonder insurance premiums are so high on the M5.

As a fellow Houstonian, I'm really sorry to hear about this. Hopefully they can get you a new engine ASAP and all of this is in the rear view mirror.

My wife and kiddo constantly complain because they feel their neck is going to snap out of place every time I pull the steering wheel to avoid anything on the road. I showed them this post and now they understand why.
Is very sad what you have to deal with because of road conditions. I think we should be able to sue the DPS for this.

Damn. Which dealer did you use?

I've hit debris before, I guess I got lucky.

Wow! $55k not including labor! I have a 2019. Insurance would probably total mine.

That’s what I was thinking. Which it sucks, because if ppl are like me…. I tune in with my cars (a bit weird i think) and after you get to love it and care of it, then is gone. Even if you get another one; I believe no two cars are the exact same.

I'm using Advantage. Have had great results getting my car serviced there.

I would be looking to an independent shop to rebuild your engine and fix the other damage. You can do a forged bottom end and 100% fresh rebuild for around $20k. At $55k does that include the other parts that were damaged or is that only for the engine replacement? I’d be willing to be insurance will want to total your car. I would push for a second quote and get with Pure Performance in Texas.

Well insurance is likely not to even pay for a new engine and probably will pay for a used engine with similar mileage. At that point OP is better off to just get his rebuilt or buy a built motor from a reputable shop.

Well, nothing is going to happen until Thursday when the adjuster will be out to review everything.

If they don’t spring for a new engine, I will definitely look into getting a built engine locally.

The $55k quote is only for the new engine. No labor.

I wonder if that engine price is from the same "list" that my local dealer pulled the price for 4 789M wheels from. He said it was "list" price, even though it was 50% over the actual list price on every BMW parts site, never mind that those sites had them prices even lower than list.

Maybe your dealer is using the contractor trick of not really wanting a job, so pick a silly price and hope you go away (or make a killing on the job). Like others have said, check some other dealers/shops.

The insurance adjuster is gonna tell them what the engine is going to cost. And they can either agree to it or try and fight back. They have their own system that they put the quote in and it spits out a this looks fine, or why the fucn is the engine 55k instead of 35k.

That being said I was the victim of road debris too.... happened in PA, lost a few teeth as a result... wish it had just killed the lower grille that's 200$ instead of the carbon one that's 1k....

Well, I finally heard back from the insurance company. They are paying to replace the engine. Now let's see how long it takes to get the parts and have it back on the road. I plan on installing an oil cooler guard. Fall Line or Turner?

Took my dealership about a month to replace an engine. Also, the Turner skid plate is finally back in stock. I ordered mine back in August and it just arrived yesterday.

Are they paying for a new engine or a used one with similar mileage?
