Fuel Range M5

I just got my 2018 M5 back from the dealer after getting a fuel injector replaced. Noticed that all my settings were reset to clear the check engine light.

Went to fuel up the car at Shell using V Power at full capacity. It showed the range at 310 miles at full.

I know for certain that before it would show anywhere between 400-420 miles at a full tank at the same gas station that I always use.

Curious if this will change over time or if I have to get the car reset again at the dealer.

Also curious what range your M5’s are showing at a full tank.

Thanks!

100% dependent on driving conditions.
This was after some cruising across Colorado and Kansas.

The range shown on the dash is dynamic, it will change based on driving condition.

Wow interesting. So I’m assuming after driving some time it’ll change ?

Yeah. If the MPG got resetted while clearing the codes i will take some time to show your normal numbers again. Look for the avg mpg… does it say your usual number? Mine is 20.8-21.0 range about 486+ miles per tank. Yours might be at 15.0-16.0 mpg

Yup exactly right. That makes sense. Was confused but assumed it was due to the reset

My range consistently shows around 500 miles after fill up. 600 is pretty high. LouK is 600 miles typical for you?

Not at all, that was during a cross country trip. Higher elevation, flat, straight roads, and driving 55/60 the whole day.

Had a convoy with the wife and cars fully loaded. Since it was such a long trip we stuck to the speed limits and right lane. Made for a much more relaxed trip. We always tend to do that for our cross country moves.

Just a guess, but I suspect that your dealer’s test drive after the injector replacement might have been aggressive and the car is using that as the basis for its estimate of your range after your fill up.

Trip data was reset and it starts from 0 mpg. When parked and at idle it lowers average mpg dramatically. Try it. See what happens.
