Product Suggestions for Wheel Cleaning

Severe Brake Dust on our BMW X3MC's...

Here's how I took care of them on this wash... (I'm always testing and trying out new products to cut time on cleaning)

Products Used
Aenso Revolve Tire Cleaner
Aenso Isern Wheel Cleaner
Aenso Orbit Tire Dressing
Wheel Woolies Wheel Brush
Detail Factory Tire Brush
Detail Factory Wheel Brush Kit (great for inner wheel barrel)

Super Bad Brake Dust

The brake dust was so bad that I had to repeat the cleaning process a couple of times.

100% dilution of PS brake buster. And then ceramic coat.

I have just used the soap I use to wash the car body and that has worked for me. Is there a reason I should use something special for cleaning the brake dust?

On what? Why to use wheel cleaner? Or how it is different than ph neutral soap?

I'm not saying YOU should use it. Many people don't need to if they have coated wheels and carbon ceramics.

But it is much better at attacking brake pad material than Normal soaps. It's also great at washing exhaust tips.

YouTube is a much better place to educate yourself on car detailing specifics. I am no expert outside my own experience and research.

The specific wheel cleaners have acids in them to chemically remove the iron dust generated by the brakes. I have coated all of my wheels and find that the dedicated cleaning products do make it a bit easier (but let's be honest - if you're reading in this sub-forum you're probably already cleaning a lot more than average so not much dirt to be removed).

The one downside I saw when I had steel brakes is the rotors would flash with rust VERY quickly and then stay that way - sometimes causing the pads to stick to the rotors. Moreover, the first time I'd back down the driveway after detailing the wheels were again coated with rust dust.

I've stopped using the cleaner on my steel brakes and for the carbon ceramics it's not needed.

Would the sonax strip ceramic coating from wheels though?

Sonax will not strip ceramic coating. My coating has held up well since coating the wheels myself.

BDX is a great product. They also make degreasers that have varying aggressiveness (orange, yellow, etc).

Their ceramic is also the best on the market IMO.

Another great product they make is eraser gel, which is a water 💦 spot remover. This product is truly amazing, and can be used on just about any surface…best application is in the house…took years of hard water stains off my shower doors. 🤯.
