Abdul sells genuine lights. Sounds like you’re having a wiring problem (as in a short). If I had to guess, probably a poorly crimped wire or bad terminal during your re-pinning.

I doubt it’s a short because I used new clips and just slid the original pins in.

Sometimes it doesn’t make a good connection. Double check all the wiring. It might not have gone in all the way or one of the wires may not be making good contact with a terminal. If you’re having the same issue as the other person who posted (the individual you quoted), that sounds like a textbook bad wiring job.

Just a quick update and shout out and share my experience. Finally I installed mine:

I messaged vic to code them and I can not say enough about how good he is it at and how easy it is to work with him. Within the same day which happed to be a Sunday. he coded them and they worked flawlessly. 10-15 mins In and out.

I also want to add about the amazing customer service at europowermotorsports.com I first spoke Abdul about the lights and was the main reason I ordered them. after washing the car I noticed the inner light where the reverse light was had moisture in it.

I reached out to them with a few pictures to see what I can do to get a new one willing to come out of pocket and with no questions asked Majdi sent me out a brand new replacement light. I can not say enought for the customer service they have.

Glad you got things working and Vic is the man. I know you are impressed with Abdul and team but make sure you were sold OEM BMW stamped lights. They got caught selling knockoffs by a few people and of course it came with a long story. You shouldn’t be getting moisture in your lights.

I also downloaded INSTA and learned how to reset faults in the BDC.
The problem would drive me crazy so I figured on the chance I had defective lights and I could buy new ones at a decent price- and I did. So far the issue hasn't come back. Again thanks to fellow board members.

Hey pal what's up! I have a 2019 M5C and I've been looking at your DIY for a while. I finally pulled the trigger last week and ordered the lights. Last night the install was complete including coding. I really appreciate the info and help that you put up here. I did use Vic for coding as well and i was not disappointed, he responded to me right away . Let the car go to sleep overnight as per his instructions, today i checked the car and all the lights work as should, no error messages.

I know you've had the lights in for a while now and i just wanted to ask you if you had any type of issues or random messages you had to deal with. Thanks again!

Nope. Just need to recode every time the dealer fucks with the car. Lol
Unless you buy them from bimmer plug apparently.

That's good to hear that they're working fine. I have to ask Vic if saving the VO and BDC coding files and recoding it after dealer does any type of flashing.

I thought bimmerplug were similar to chinese knock offs, that's why i didn't want to risk getting them. It says designed by bimmer plug on their site. I think i can sleep better at night knowing no water will be getting into my car or the tail lights

I’ve been running the OEM Euro LCI tails for almost two years. Vic coded them. Zero issues. Dealer hasn’t updated my software and they know not to without asking first. I did have my passenger seat pad replaced. Dealer would have normally flashed the car to initialize it, but I told them not to and I initialized it myself with the help of the ProTool team. I also have backed up my BDC using ProTool if I ever needed to restore it.

Those Bimmerplug offerings look like OEM lights where they open them up and rewired them the way the Chinese knockoffs are wired. No thanks, especially since they are more expensive than OEM are. Vic isn’t going anywhere if I ever need them recoded.

I also opted for the US lights. The bright red blinker is much better IMO . I never really cared for my welcome lights since key is always in my pocket, then if you'd like to turn on the lights you can also use the alarm button, no big deal there.

Anyway, this was a great write up by the way.

I went for the Euro’s. At the time it was specifically to avoid the welcome light errors. My OCD wouldn’t allow me to have something that didn’t work and threw errors. But, I do like the cool blinker strip better now that I’ve had them and have seen US LCI’s in action. They definitely are brighter though. Just a matter of taste. Not worried about visibility issues from other drivers. Somehow Audi has been doing blinkers similar to this for a long time without issues.

Hahaha let me rephrase myself, i meant to say the US lights worked out better for me, to each their own, its all subjective, you are correct. I for the main reason i didn't go euro is because i didn't want to tap into any wire, or run any wires. My car had the 4 wires on the inner lights. I just knew that this mod was going to work according to this thread and that was that.

Does your car have 4 wires or 5 on the inner lights?

Technically my car had 5 wires, but the fifth was the rear fog. I had three options:

1
Move the fog over at the BDC to become the inner wire needed for the Euros.

2
Jump

3
Run two new wires for the left and right from the BDC.

I went with #3 and enabled the rear fog with the existing fog wire. I’m kind of an OEM guy, so running a new wire was how the BMW retrofit instructions recommended it. Plus when I did it the jump method was pretty new.

For both of us, the end result is the same and that is we got a huge upgrade every time we walk up behind our cars. Easily my most impactful and favorite mod and I’ve done a lot, including a Dinan Catback Exhaust.

This is a very helpful thread. Thanks to all who have contributed!

After seeing so many pictures I decided to place an order from EuroPower for “Euro Spec” Genuine BMW lights. Will reach out to Vic when I get started on this.

I ordered it in mid December 2021. Mid-XPipe came in in February 2022, Axleback April 2022. Shop called me the day the Axleback dropped and I brought it in same day. The shop already had the valve remote in stock. Definitely was a lot of waiting and excitement after I pushed buy, but lead times were a lot worse for others 6-9 months before my order. I haven't followed the lead times or back orders since I got it slapped on. Very happy with the result cosmetically as well as sound.

My local BMW dealer is willing to install the LCI lights on my 2019 M5C and says there is no coding involved, is that true? I will be buying the lights directly from the BM W dealer

Not true. There is coding involved with an OEM light install. They could add the lights to the VO, but that’s the same as coding and probably still requires a few tweaks. Coders that don’t know what they are doing start by changing your VO and it doesn’t work. The only lights that don’t require coding are the Chinese knockoffs. BMW does offer a retrofit kit and instructions. If your dealer offered it up, let them figure it out. I don’t even want to ask what they are charging you. I paid $300 for my indie to do it. I could have easily and was going to do it myself, but $300 was well worth my time.

They’re saying there is no retrofit coding offered by bmw. It is NOT plug and play.

Keep in mind, They may “work” without coding but your car will give you every bulb out warning under the Sun periodically.

Going through that now as I wait for Vic to have a free day to recode mine after having the dealer install a new head light switch which required coding which erased all previous coding.

Since they work I feel fine driving it around but can’t wait to get him to make it stop.

News Bulletin: new bmw software does not play well with USA tail lights. VIC can’t code them to work without it causing loss of communication between head unit and car.

No clock, can’t adjust settings, can’t set M mode. A real cluster fuck. No pun intended.
