Dealer Service Hourly Rates
I thought $90 an hour was high. My kid is tying to get his GF's Volkswagen fixed in Florida and those MF's charge $250 an hour for service. WTAF?

Florida VW dealer, the other dealer in town charges $125.00 but quoted twice the number of hours for the same repair. Glad we have all those "Consumer Protection Agency" gov lackies on the payroll. I wish I could charge whatever I wanted in my line of work.

Factory dealers have and will always be the most expensive of them all, however rates over the past few years have become outrageous and completely detached from reality. This is driving prices up across the board since independents are also raising their pricing based on how much more is being charged at the dealer (and I don’t blame them) This also leads to people not repairing their vehicles and somewhat forces them to buy another one. You can hardly leave the shop with three digit invoice. Few weeks ago my friend purchased bottle of transmission fluid for his m340i among few other things without paying attention. It was $90 f*****g $90 for one litter of basic liquid. We are living in outrageous times. One more thing. Dealer’s invoice for (warranty work) was $10500 for replacing transfer case and ONE front strut in 540i x drive.

my local BMW dealers are charging $275/hr lol they also play around with #hrs required for the task. One will charge 4hrs vs another can quote you 5 for the same task. Will they actually spend that much time on your car. Definitely absolutely fk NO. It's ridiculous!
2 most reasons encounters for me: - XM channel list disappeared and my navigation stuck at loading - dealer said 6something plus tax and if the car was to stay overnight, it will be closer to 1k. I got Bimmer Remote to fix it for me. He did it remotely in around 15min. - windshield got chipped and safelite successfully cracked it for me. 1 local dealer quoted 2k9, another quoted 3k2. Difference was because one quote me 1hr extra for "cleaning broken glass fee". The first dealer also told me they didn't have my glass in stock so they will have to transfer one from the later LOL. Later on, a friend of mine who owns a body shop said both dealers outsource glass work to Glass America and their fee is normally around 350-450 for dealers. They came out and do it at the dealer as well. Part was around 1700 retail or just under 1200 between dealer to dealer. So rough math, BMW dealer wants to pocket around 1400-1500 for being a middle man. I'm all for businesses as many of us here are business owners as well but there is a difference between being reasonable and being cut-throat. They are the later. |

And this is why, for me at least, leasing is such a great option. Drive the car while fully warrantied and move on every three years. No hassle, no unexpected expenses. I trade in and out of cars often and they are a depreicating asset so to me having a payment is no big dea.

So you have driven your M5 nearly 50k miles in 8 months? I have been averaging about 10k per year in my M5. I once had a job with a 100 mile per day round trip commute and did 30k plus for a few years but I did not get to drive an M5 back then.

Nah only 30k lol I was referencing the bumper to bumper warranty. But generally I do drive over 100k a year. (This isn't my only car). I find myself driving 100+ just around town a day sometimes. And can easily drive 250 miles round trip just for dinner
