It's the same as car purchases.

The tax rate is 5% on the total purchase price (in case of buying) or on the total of the lease payments (if leasing), or $300 whichever is lowest.

So there is a hard cap at $300 total sales tax on any car purchase or lease over 90 days in SC.

On a lease, I believe this means they add 5% to your lease payments for the first few months until the amount of cumulative tax paid hits $300, and then the payments are untaxed after that.
Wow, if you're right, I envy that--mine is roughly 10% on top of every lease payment.

Discount = 4,000.00
Rebate = 1,000.00

Well, that all depends. Do you want to pay over $1,700 per month?

If not, pick up the phone and start calling.

It's because it's an ordered vehicle. There's not as much wiggle room as a car sitting in a lot or even a dealer trade.

And find a volume dealer. Dealers who care about how many units they move a month. Dealerships are either volume or profit margins... Some just want bragging rights, depends on their business model...

Man you have an opinion on everything don't ya.

This is representative of what I was seeing when I researched my 2020. There were fewer cars available then and no custom builds close to delivery so there's that but this isn't horrible and it certainly isn't dogshit.

That said, Trevor is right to some extent on one aspect--find another dealer, and then another... and so on and make them compete. When you reach your comfort zone, decide. If it's a custom build, negotiate the price up front if it's your build... if it's someone else's... treat it as you do every other car... and patience.

I don't need to be the guy who gets the best deal in the country, but at the same time I don't want to pay vastly more than similar customers for a similar build.

$1730 a month seems like it would be at least $200 more per month than what it appears others are getting. That's over $7000 more over the lease term.

Or am I wrong about $1700 being high for a build to get ordered?

Yes it’s very high. Your only getting a 3.2% discount before your rebate. You should easily be able to get 5-10% off a build.

I have not seen substantially better deals on 2020 models. The deals to be had are on the 19s.

You haven’t seen better than 3.2% off MSRP on a 2020? Your not calling enough dealers around the country!

I'm not calling any dealers—I already have my car. My comment was in reference to what I see here and the repeated sentiment that the dealers aren't budging.

Since you know better, why don't you post some of the deals so we can all be enlightened.

Northeast volume dealers are doing 10% on all 2020 models including M5's. No harm calling around to see if the deals are still going on.

Was just about to type it but Vink beat me to it. 10% off a 2020 in the Northeast is easily attainable, I made many phone calls to dealers in Long Island, Connecticut etc. The cars are just sitting in the freezing cold, dead of winter on the lots. Very few people in the Northeast are buying an M5 in November, December, January, February, March. If they are buying anything it’s an X5 for the winter.

his car was 123+4k off, and his payment is 1700+. My dad is paying around that for a car that is 10k more. And he got his 3months ago when residuals were much poorer. I'm seeing people snatching m5's up for below 1500 now, and pretty solid msrp's. So yes, it is dog shit. I call it how i see it.

Fair enough; makes sense if the inventory is there... but not so simple with a custom order which is what the OP cited in the quote.

I leased my M5C from BMW of Richmond. Speak to A gentleman named Nick. Tell him Kenny from Florida recommended to call. Unfortunately they have no 2019 left. Here was my deal.
$118,650 I have Executive package, Driver assist . No Wilken Bower
$first month payment drive off nothing else
$1120.00 tax included . i could have gotten the car for 1100.00 even but they shipped the car to me enclosed and added the 20.00 per month to the payment . This is a 36/10 lease.

Thank you for the suggestions, everyone.

It is important that I reiterate that I am seeking a 2020 and I want to order one from the factory to get the options I want, and to do Performance Delivery which is really helpful to me because it will put the car near Atlanta so my detailer can pick it up from the PDC and take it directly to his shop for PPF and coating.

So, the question remains.... is $1700 a month with $2k cash down too much for an ordered build?
