Few questions on features new to me

BIMMERPOST

Holla guys,

Have several questions on the 2019 f90 m5. Was hoping to get some assistance.

1.) Question on the active radar cruise control and the stop and go function. Never had this feature before.
So the way i envision it, is that in traffic or bumper to bumper situation, the cruise control would keep distance from vehicles ahead, and stop the car if necessary. My vehicle would then resume driving from the full stop once traffic begins to move again. This is my understanding.
However, what i noticed is that once my car comes to a full stop due to heavy traffic on the highway, it does Not resume driving in it's own. I have to re-engage the cruise control by hitting a button.
Am i doing something wrong? Shouldn't the cruise control stop and go, automatically without my intervention?
Also...my radar eye at buttom of front bumper is clean and has no obstruction.

Any clarification the way this thing works would be greatly appreciated.

2.) Also wanted to ask about 2 steering safety features. One is the steering wheel button on the left side of the steering. Im assuming this function is turned on to keep you within the lane and prevent you from sliding out. So what about the 2nd feature that i see light up on my dash on the upper left hand side, green with a car diagonal to 2 lane marks?
What's the difference between these 2?

3.) The back up camera. I always turn off the colorful object proximity guidelines and blocks. So i turned them all off on this car, as well.
However, i still get these alert colored blocks on the main left backup camera view (birds eye view) when i get close to object in the rear.
How can i turn this off? Doesn't seem to be a choice. I turned off guidelines and obstacle proximity, and still they show up when backing up ( these blocks do look different to the once i turned off though). Is it a factory setting that cannot be toggled off?

Thanks so much. Looking for the manual, but the wife stored it away somewhere. And been meaning to read the digital copy of the manual in the car, but it is at a dealer currently for service.

Sounds like the adaptive cruise control is functioning as designed. When the car comes to a complete stop, you have to either hit resume or tap the gas pedal. That's how it works on mine and other bmw series I've driven. When I had an E63S Benz, I didn't have to do anything, it would resume as traffic resumed.

The bottom with the steering wheel is Active Lane Keeping

The green light you see is Lane Departure Warning

Adaptive Cruise Control

This is a good overview of the buttons

Hi, I am new to these features too and after much research, I think I can help you.

Your car has 2 assistances when in traffic, cruise control and traffic jam assistance. What you describe happening is cruise control, that’s how it should work. When your car stop, you need to reengage it to start moving again. Traffic jam assistant on the other hand is different. It requires you to steer, but it controls the acceleration and braking, moving off as and when the car in front moves. The traffic jam assistant ONLY works on motorways and some duel carriageways, some it likes, some it don’t. Both assistants are actioned by the same button.....so really it depends what road you are on as to which will be active at that time.

The 2 lane steering features, lol it seems you and me had exactly the same questions....
The cruise control keeps you pretty much in the middle of your chosen lane and steers the best it can to ensure you are not wandering al over the place. If you wish to change lanes manually (rather than auto, by hitting the indicator) you can and the car only fights you a little, ie it’s no drama.
Now, the little green light that’s showing you the lane departure assistant, that’s pure evil. That damn thing bounces you between either side of your lane like it’s playing pinball. It’s designed to STOP you leaving that lane and will aggressively force you back in, regardless of the angle you car is now at. I turned that off, it’s horrible. If you don’t indicate and just change lanes, it really fights you to stay in lane. I hated it.

Back up camera. Sorry, no idea. I like the blocks as it makes it clear where the dangers are so I haven’t turned them off, or tried to.

I hope I helped with your first questions though

Paul
