Most of us do not get full PPF, just the front end of the car. i.e. bumper, headlights, hood, fenders, side mirrors. In my case, I also did the rocker panels. Also, the better PPF installers will do wrapped edges on all the panels, so there won't be any edges to collect dirt or visible peeling. This does require some extra time and care because some parts have to be removed like the emblems and fender side grills. |

But your call. I never got PPF on a lease until I saw the damage to the 17 X5M I was turning in off lease. Now I won' go without PPF.

But the exterior finish is pretty flawless, well apart from all the stone chips and rash on the lower front wings and sills from the fat tyres ;( |

Yea the panels that get hit by debris and rock chips the most are the front bumper and the lower part of the front doors that get hit by shit flying up from the front wheels. The hood is surprisingly flawless though.

What tires are you guys running? The paint is soft but the P Zeros are horrid with kicking up rocks and chipping. I haven't had this issue with any other tire on there. I'd bet most of you experiencing this have the P Zeros.

P Zero. No rock chips for me in 6000 miles. But I do have PPF on my rocker panels.

People need to realize that the rocks they hear rattling around are almost entirely on the inside of the wheel well, not the exterior paint of the car. I've run PZeros on multiple BMWs, Audis and Porsches, all with wide tires, and never had any issues with rock chips. I drove literally 15 miles on a road strewn with fresh gravel in a Carrera S with 305 PZeros on the back listening to the cacophony of rock noise for 20 minutes and still a had zero chips or marks on the exterior paint. |

I only have 1 minor chip that you'd have to know where it is to notice it. I live in the desert so small rocks on roads are abundant. I am very happy with the paint.

the clear under the hood is odd. some bmw's have literally overspray, and on my brothers m4 heritage, it is full gloss. You open the engine bay and it's fucking gorgeous. That being said, bmw is all about volume, can't expect minor things like these to be consistent. |

Any car forum you go to you will see people with this same complaint. Unfortunately the current paints used by any manufacturer are not as durable as the paints used in the past.
As others have said you can use PPF to provide paint protection or have some Dr. ColorChip handy to fix the rock chips you will get. |

When I got my new 2018 F80 I did not PPF it. Somehow it survived 1500 miles of ED driving in Europe and came up in very good shape. The moment I started driving it in the US, and particularly in the highway in the US (Boston area), I started to notice it. I PPF ed it as soon as I saw this to stop the damage since I thought I'd keep the car forever.
But I learned my lesson. Since then, I have PPF'd (at least full front) every new car I care about. Luckily, my new-to-me F90 came with full PPF from the prior owner, but I would have at least done full front on whatever F90 I would have bought. It sucks to have to spend the money, but it is the only way to be "free." |

F90 m5 is known to get all chipped up behind the front tires on the fender and even on part of the front doors. Mine has 13k miles and it’s not so bad but getting there. Luckily it’s donnington gray so it hides it. Gonna let it get a bit worse then have a legit shop repray those corners. I advise everyone to get the little carbon mudflaps from autotechnik. I bought them but it’s too late. Once I get it fixed I will put them on. It will get even worse if u go wider than 275 in the front. Tires are soft everything sticks to them and gets released into the side of the car lol. Sucks.

I had PPF put on the hood and I'm glad. I have a few darker marks on the PPF which looks like it is where it self healed. At least that's what I want to think those marks are. For some reason in Las Vegas, the street sweepers haven't come out yet. There are a couple of roads I drive down that sound like I'm driving on a dried up river bed.
