HUD Rev counter

How the heck do I get it so the rev counter appears on the HUD when I press M1? I can’t get it to work.

You can't since the M-mode BS was introduced. BMW screwed the pooch with M-mode.

It’s an LCI. 😞

So just pressing the M mode button on console is the way to do it?

Yeah, it's the only way and very dumb. Believe me I tried everything I could think of to make it work like the pre-lci. Must push the m-view button on the console by the shifter

Huge bust by BMW fixing a problem that didn't exist. I'm hoping if enough enthusiats (their biggest brand champions) complian they'll recode the HUD selection back into the M1/M1 button configurators. Likely a long shot, but you know the saying ... you don't get wht you don't ask for!

I actually like the M mode button because it's now much easier to toggle off the nannies. It's just one button push. Pre LCI was a hassle.

I'm talking about the driving assistance stuff, not traction control, etc. On long drives I usually leave all that on. Pre LCI was controlled through idrive settings or going into the menu from the button next to hazards.

The dumbest example of over engineering with a total lack of customer validation. If they'd merely 1) left it alone, we'd all be happy or 2) allowed us to assign the M-mode to either of the buttons… even better. As is, it completely opposes the whole freakin' point of M1/M2… jeez this one pissed me off.

Agree 100% on having the different levels of nanny intervention controlled with the M-Mode button. What makes zero sense is why tie the instrument cluster and HUD displays to that? And why do the two displays have to move in concert? I'd like to have the regular instrument cluster display and the M HUD for regular, non-spirited driving. MAKES NO SENSE!! It's like forcing the sunroof to open (if you have one) when opening the windows!!!

Is there a coding fix that allows the M-Mode to start-up in the Sport program?

It doesn't actually turn off the nannies, full off drivers assist is only done by holding down the drivers assistance button 3 seconds. Ask how I know? Tried to squeeze in between 2 semis having a slow race and emergency braking kicked on almost making the semi I got in front of to rear end me.

And for those that tend to never believe what I say here's the owners manual, track you have to hold m mode anyway, and screen turns off which can be a bummer.

Now what I wish we could turn off under individual settings is the forward collision assistant like you can with lane keep for example lol

Thank you. Any idea whether the IP could be coded to display M View upon start-up?

I'm useless again here. When I first encountered M-mode, I was stunned that BMW didn't integrate into the M1/M2 buttons and years later—despite my efforts—nothing's changed. M-mode itself doesn't appear to have any unexposed knobs or dials either.

Coding can't fix what the native OS doesn't do and this falls into that bucket.

Love to be wrong on this one but I've seen nothing to give me hope.

BMW needs to do a better job talking to current and past owners. Most of us have the same gripes about the car that could be easy improvements.

Totally agree!

In LCI cars M1 and M2 buttons don't change displays (cluster or HUD).

At first I didn't like it, but I actually love it now.

The M buttons control engine, suspension, exhaust, trans so when I hit one of the M buttons I get what I want from a car dynamics standpoint, without getting rid of info I might want to be seeing.

A quick press of M Mode button next to shifter and all my displays change.

Again, at first I didn't like it, but now I love how it is setup because I can change vehicle dynamics without messing with displays, driver assistance, etc and vice versa for displays and vehicle dynamics…

Yeah. No.
So to change M Modes (not M1 or M2 buttons), the display changes as well as the HUD; but what also changes is drivers assistance as that gets turned off.

It is apparent you don't like the setup, but if I have drivers assists on and want to get out of comfort and eco settings (my M1 button) to pass or play a bit (my M2 button), I can do that in a LCI car without turning off the thing I want on. So again I change vehicle dynamics without changing displays or drivers assists. I get to quickly determine what I want changed and when which is better flexibility.

If the M buttons were linked to displays and drivers assist, I would be frustrated with the car turning off stuff I may want on and vice versa.

Again I love it this way and I'm not trying to convince anyone, just providing my perspective and to each their own!

At first I thought it was absolutely daft and after I played with it and lived with it for a while, it all started making a lot of sense! Again I now love it this way and I wouldn't be happy if they had M Modes linked to the M buttons.

All it needs is to have M-modes added to the M1/2 buttons—et voila—they're positioned on the steering wheel for good reason and yet… As it is, it's an isolated, thoughtless addition that fails to integrate with the established and well-loved controls.
