LCI suspension upgrade

I was offered a 2021 F90 M5Comp/M8Comp suspension including EDC.
Anything I should know about installing this on to a 2019 M5C?
I'd love to test out what everyone claims is a significantly more compliant system.

If anyone has info I would appreciate it...thank you!

It’s a big job. I was slightly tempted by the for sale ad.

I'd be more curious if the computer will recognize it appropriately without an error code

It was offered to me directly before being listed in classified section. However, I declined because I don't know enough about it.

I asked the question here hoping for some information, but no one responded other than your little snark, so...it's a pass for now.

Lol. He posted it for sale before you posted the question. Sorry to offend you.

A strange thing to notice and bother to comment on? I didn't post about it right away and don't check the forum as much as some. As I mentioned, it was offered to me privately and I just don't know enough about it to take it on.
But no worries, looking at your post count I'll chalk up the childish comment to compulsivity.

If it makes you feel better I found this interesting. Says it fits my 2020 which may mean it would bolt right up with no software issue? Either way a Really good question and I was close to taking a shot in the dark with the sale.

That and ccb are the only thing keeping me from trying to get into an LCI after lease end. And wife already approved my next years bonus check to be used on ccb lol.

I just bought my 2019 M5C off lease. If I could soften the suspension in comfort mode without ruining the handling, I would do it. It isn't unbearable but I would enjoy having a true comfort mode on tap.

I don't trust the parts manual as far as potential software issues and I have no idea what to really expect as far as outcome if all the parts were swapped...but I would love to know. I absolutely encourage you to take the plunge and report back.

Fantastic write up on the remote start BTW. Big kudos and giant thumbs up for taking the time to document the install in such detail.

I would posit that an aftermarket solution would yield better results... The Carbahn setup was transformative on my '19 and by all reports it would work well on the '21 Comp variant. Steve Dinan still knows his Sh*t.

Obviously not however the springs and bump stops account for much of the ride quality - i found the stock dampers suited the changes quite well. you should find a ride in a car thats modded this way - it might surprise you...I was.

By that logic one could just get oem M5 springs and have the pre compliant ride of the base M5….unfortunately not accurate.

Yes the M5C springs are shorter and their spring rate probably is stiffer but the shocks are also stiffer in all settings.

By your logic nothing is improved unless shocks are swapped.

NO question that a base and Comp will be different. I certainly did not posit that it would somehow turn into a base car. And yes a set of Ohlins RTs would no doubt be a nice improvement

Carbhan coilover claims 10% stiffer springs but their magic seems to be in bump stop tuning according to Steve Dinan.

Having experienced a 2021 Comp car with the coilover setup I was immediately convinced to make the change on my 2019 base car. it's pretty dramatic.

All of these components work in concert even with stiffer shocks improved results can be obtained. I run sport setting on my shocks and it seems to be pretty damn good having previously used comfort due to the previous stiff ride, it's quite compliant and controlled.

There is a lot more difference in shocks than springs.

And Well I don't think anything is improved from base springs to comp springs on pre-lci haha. They're awful for a road car.

So do we know if swapping to LCI Comp shocks the car will not have an error code?

Nope. We've been arguing about the magic mix of suspension components. Which, no one ever agrees on. You can have two Formula 1 drivers with the SAME FRICKIN' CAR, and the SAME FRICKIN' COURSE, and they need different suspension setups to optimize their times. There's a lot of "human" components to suspension setups. I don't know why people waste the time arguing about it. But they do...

What about you? You got an opinion, or just boringly interested in the answer that no one seems to have?

No but the guy did sell them. I asked who he sold them to hoping to find the same answer. But alas no luck.

I think they are the ones being installed right now in another thread. Since the job is not quite finished, there is no feedback yet, other than that the car was driven with just the rears installed and the member and his wife felt the ride was better.

I was concerned about the ride of the 19 comp so I bought an 18 base, but after a year with it I started tightening up the base suspension. Dinan front tension strut monoballs, comp motor mounts, H&R F90 springs, and I have the Dinan rear link kit on order. I would buy stiffer swaybar bushings like the comp has but they don’t seem to be sold separately and no one in the aftermarket is making them yet. I would also consider stiffer rear subframe mounts but no one seems to offer them yet. I bought a set of Hardrace stiffeners but have not received them yet and am not even sure they will fit since they are for the G30 and G30 subframe bushings have a different PN.

I have noticed in all of the M5 CS reviews that they are saying the suspension is more compliant than the M5C.

I have checked on the BMW parts catalogue and the only suspension difference I can find is the springs, dampers and bushing are all the same. The only other difference is possibly the software for the dampers.

My M5C is being built this week and I have ordered and just received the CS springs which I will be fitting them ASAP after I get the car and I will let you know my findings.

I have a base LCI, this is why I am also interested.

Due to all the reports about the comps having a rough ride, I bought a CPO 2018 base. I drove it with the stock springs for a year and decided it was a little loose. I added Dinan front monoballs, comp motor mounts, and H&R M5 springs and think it rides fine. The stiffer springs had a minimal effect on ride. My car is 100% street driven. I have the Dinan rear toe link kit on order since I think the rear end is a little wiggly.
