No drill front license plate research

So, I did a search for this topic on here; didn’t find much. Trying to do some research on ways to avoid putting holes in my bumper. After a few moments, I realized….I really don’t want to put a plate on the front regardless of holes in the bumper. I don’t like the way it looks. I’ll probably need to knock on wood after writing this but, I’ve been driving a car without a front license plate in 3 different states for over 20 years now, never got a ticket or even spoken to about it. I think I’m just going to ride this out as long as I can.

I've always used US Millworks. Very solid construction, and can pop it right off with the quick release version.

That said, I have plenty of friends who drive here in NJ without them and haven't had any issues or tickets (knock on wood). I just wish every state moved to the European style plates at least.

In a decade without front plates on two cars in WA, I've only received one front plate ticket from a meter maid in Bellingham WA. Never had an issue in the Seattle metro area. Then again, we have so few cops on the job. And the ones working couldn't give a shit.

https://licenseplatewrap.com/ is interesting but appears to be CA only.

Just pay the 56$ if it ever comes to it lol usually cops won't pull you over just for the plate, they're not even paying attention to that stuff, they pull you over for speeding say 5-10 over and give you a break by giving you "no front plate" or "obstructed plate" which is no points doesn't affect your record and is like 56$ to just pay it lol. But do keep the plate in the car with you and put it in like a plastic sleeve, throw it up on your dash if you do get pulled over for any reason and if they say something try to talk your way out of it by being like oh I just have it in the windshield! Works for me 99% of the time other times they aren't having my bs

This is always a great discussion. My co worker has the 2019 M5 comp, he did not put on a front plate. He was in Albany for a meeting. Was pulled over at the exit ramp and ticketed. His special badge (EMS director) did not help him. That story made me laugh.

My '18 has a front plate. It looks fine.

My '19 Boxster on the other hand has a removable under the body mount that is very nice. It's a company out of Canada who makes mounts for the high end type cars Lambo's Ferrari's, 911's but we worked out the details for a Boxster/Cayman mount and it's great. Service is fantastic.

https://eezeplate.com

Maybe they can engineer something for the BMW's....LOL...

Last photo...more recent...added protection grills....working with the company for a solution for the M5....

If I had to choose, I think I’d have to use the kind that screws into the tow area. With as many sensors as these things have, I can imagine anywhere else to put it and not block a parking sensor or the collision sensor below the grill.

FWIW-
I've gotten one $50ish ticket in like 10 years of running no front plate in NY/NNJ, and I took a 3900mi road trip last summer through 14 states without a problem.

The problem isnt driving around with no plate in NYC, its the stupid traffic cops/meter maids who walk around and give tickets while your parked. I got 3 parked in front my house.

If your state and any states you travel through do not enforce front plate laws, if any, don’t worry. If they almost never enforce, take your chances and pay or try to talk your way out of the ticket. If you live in a police state that has a front plate law and where cops have little to do but write tickets, get a front plate

That's Minnesota... which has a front plate law. Not sure if it was just my local Suburb here in the Minneapolis area, but back when I had an '06 Evo MR, I didn't have a plate and they pulled me over three times in about a year and a half...

Think I’m just going to let fate decide for me. If I get a ticket, I’ll still let it ride. If I start getting them in rapid succession, which I really don’t see happening, I’ll consider it.

I don’t like blocking airflow. I would use the tow hook mounted plate like US Millworks (I use one since my state requires front plates and does ticket).

I like it. However I think that setup will cover the radar cruise. Once I get it, I might be able to find a spot for it. Thanks for posting the pics.

I have the sto n sho as well, but I mounted the bracket to the far right (drivers) side and used the existing screws holding down the flap, so it does not block airflow. I literally never have it on, but it is ready to go in the trunk if questioned and my story is....I just went through the car wash and forgot to put it back".

Has anyone tried the Carbonio?
https://carbonio.com/products/bmw-m5...31452674949189
I actually prefer conventional center mounted options but I'm always a bit skeptical of things I haven't tried.

Looks fine, but also looks like it's more of a permanent solution if that is what you are looking for. All those brackets and attachments to the plastic grill worry me in terms of wind and stress. Seems like a lot of hardware. Looks like the plate can be removed easily, but then you are left with all that crap on there to look at.

I like the Sto n Sho solution, but I am just looking for something that is completely hidden, does not require drilling and allows you to put the plate on and off easily. I never have my plate on but always have it ready in the trunk and a story to go with it.

Yeah, in my case I'm not concerned with removing it, I just mostly want to avoid drilling for installation. Once it's on, I don't plan on removing it unless I sell.
