Transmission issue

I noticed that my transmission "shudders" when beginning to reverse. It was so jarring the first time it happened that I thought I ran something over and got out of the car to check, but nothing. I've noticed it a few more times when reversing and rough shifts, mainly from first to second under low throttle or when downshifting at lower speeds. I brought the car to the dealer, and they found no fault codes.

My car is a 2019 M5 base with 21,000 miles and should not have any issues. I'm under factory warranty and want them to replace the tranny, but they won't because there are no faults. If this is a common issue, if others have experienced it or could share knowledge, it would help me argue the need to replace it.

Happy motoring

Have them take it for a drive or have them ride with you. Not sure if BMW has transmissions sensor for every issue but that’s definitely not normal. On a different vehicle I have the transmission does something similar and it vibrates when shifting or right before shifting. So bad I thought it was the tranny mounts. No faulty code and still does it. I’m just waiting for it to blow up one of this days.
Just talk to them or the service manager I’m sure they can do something else other than “no codes” excuse.
Good luck!!!

Thanks for your input! It sadly doesn't happen all of the time but I will ask them to ride with me. This dealer has a lot of poor reviews and I did not have a good experience with my service rep. I will definitely be talking to the service manager.

Wouldn’t worry to much about it my m5 sometimes clunks when going from drive to park or even sometimes from park to first gear but it’s normal from what I hear.. believe it or not this ZF trans is super stout.

Same transmission but quite a few years apart. I wonder how different the two are. Thanks though.

If he still has the F10 in his signature, then its a completely different trans. 7 Speed dual clutch vs 8 speed torque converter auto.
I cannot blame the dealer for not wanting to replace a trans when to them, it showed zero issues. Best bet is as others have said to try to replicate the issue with them on a test drive. Also having them check the fluid levels wouldn't hurt.

you may or may not have a different trans than he does, if your build date is after sept 2019 the m5 shipped with 8hp75 transmissions while the m8 shipped with 8hp76, in september they made the switch to make the m5's 8hp76 transmissions as well. (stronger faster shift solenoids and supposedly higher torque rating)
