M5C or 2 options(M3, X5)

Hi All,
Wondering how is the M5C practicality with a toddler now, maybe another on the future, lol
I currently have an X5 M50i but want to go back to a more powerful sedan like m5.
So, I'm contemplating to either trade my x5 for the m5c or just keep it and add a g80 m3 to my garage. Or just wait a little more time and trade it for LCI X5M.
SO is better 1 powerful option or 2 less powerful options.
Thanks

We have a 3 year old and a 10 month old with an X7 and an M5. I tried fitting carseats in the G80 and there is no way you are getting rear facing seats in there without causing discomfort to your front passengers. The non carbon fiber front seats are just too big. We have a rear facing seat behind the front passenger and a forward facing behind the driver side with no issues in the M5C, and we have the X7 for road trips.

Just yesterday my toddler was yelling "go fast, go fast." So I would do it.

If I add the g80, it will be with buckets seats and not baby will be allowed, thats what the M50i is for.

My 3 yr old loves being in my car. He says 'Press the red button!!', the engine start
My wife's family wagon is electric so is drama less.
It's a 5 series so is just as practical. The only caveats are that because the front seats are so big, space in the rear is less than a standard 5 and he can get his feet on the front seat backs, so shoes off policy applies! The other is as the M5 feels prestige inside, it makes you cry inside when my wife lets him eat in the car or when he vomits 😭

I would advice you to stick with the X5 (and future X5M if possible). If you are like me I would absolutely drive me crazy having kids in the M5C. IMHO the Saloon style is not small kids oriented, I think the back seats are convenient for some occasions but not for full time use.

I would keep the X5 and add the G80.

Maybe in the future you can replace the G80 with the M5.

The X5 is a much more practical vehicle, especially with a toddler.

I have both an X5 and M5C and it is a great combo. While the X5 is my daily I drive the M5C several times a week as well.

My youngest is now a 15 y/o basketball player who is 6’ feet tall and when he and his teammates are with me, I’m glad I have the X5 as they’re huge and smell like sh-t.

Good luck!!

Here is my take. I have a 8 month old and the Nuna rear facing car seat. I needed something FAA approved for travel so I can take the car seat with my nugget on the plane. With Nuna, no complains about the interior in the M5 but if front passenger will need space it will be tight. The stroller fits in the trunk too but have to wiggle it around to fit. My wife prefers SUV and she’s due for a new one so we’re between X5 or GLE or whichever has more rear legroom.

I agree with others as well to keep the X5 and get G80. Or better yet, keep the X5 and add the M5 instead of M3!

I had the same x5m50i myself I traded for M5 but if I could have afforded it, I would have kept it in a heartbeat. Perfect travel car with ultra comfort!

I have a f90 and x5- I prefer the x5 for family duties as I can’t drive spiritedly with them in the car anyway. The comfort goes a long way for the people sitting in the back. Also I get ocd and nervous more than anything when they’re in the m5 with food, dirty shoes etc.

the b58 in the x5 has plenty of power and also weighs 400-500 lbs less than the v8 counterparts. I definitely miss the v8 sounds when driving it but again if I’m not really pushing the car with family I think the b58 is more than sufficient.

The x5m50 and g80 would make a great combo, you still get a TTv8 and the s58 is probably bmws best platform currently. The s58 was the main reason I also picked up a X3MC recently.

Off topic but the GLE is significantly roomier in the second row. I find the X5 to be cramped.

X5m would be my vote. I’ve had all the ice cars you’re talking about and currently have an X5m, m5c and m8c vert. The X5M was my go to car for years with the family. I would add a race chip piggy back to it…totally changes how it drives when you want it to.

I have race chip and dp on the m50i and its pretty good. So you rather have one option on x5m vs 2 option?

I wouldn't want to deal with 2 v8s.

Personally yes. My cats would sit most of the time. I sold my M3 with maybe 2000 miles on it. But, it also depends on what storage you have. I have a warehouse now so I just park extra cars there.

Storage not an issue, I have plenty space in my garage on a 3 acres house land. But i do have concerns on getting enough time to drive both, I dont want to spent another 80k to seat at my garage.lol

Honestly that’s what happened to me. Too many vehicles and didn’t drive them nearly enough. Now I don’t care but when the kids were young it was an issue especially when we had 4 to 5 vehicles with a three car garage at the time. But, if I’m honest I wish I had my old M3 back along with my old E60 M5. But, back to the options…X5M is the best of both…an suv that drives like an M5…not quite…but close enough. Regardless of which route you choose to go you’ll probably be happy.

My view is that the car you drive most should be the one that you like most, even if that means it gets more wear and tear and miles and the value drops faster. I buy cars to enjoy, not to preserve for the next owner.

If you have enough money that you can have 2 great cars, that is ideal. The X5M has a reputation for a rough ride. I wanted one but did not want my wife to hate me since she is the primary SUV driver. We both preferred the Cayenne, but they do cost more than the X5. I nearly bought the GTS but when my wife drove it she said it sounded like a truck so I had to compromise on the S, which was then a 2.9L turbo with 434 hp. Today the S has a detuned version of the 4.4L V8. With a piggyback tune, that would be my choice for the family car.

I’d still want the 2nd car to be fun to drive and able to carry a kid in a rear facing car seat. Without that ability there will be a few years when you would have liked to drive your fun car but many times you had to take the other car instead.

Tough decisions in these first world problems.

We have a base M5 and had a X5 (just got a X6 the past month to replace it).

The X5 has a bit more space for tall items in the back and has a lot more ground clearance but otherwise they are about the same. If you look at the dimensions there isn't much difference.

My mother-in-law stays with us for half the year and she personally prefers the M5 saying that the back seats are more comfortable.

I specifically went for the base M5 for more comfort and better practicality (higher ground clearance).

One thing the M5 will offer over the any sport SUV is going to be the lower center of gravity which you will always feel in any turn.

If we were spending my money, I’d keep the x5m50 and add the g80. The g80 is not as comfortable as the x5 or m5, due to size and setup, but it does bring some additional fun if that’s what you’re looking for. If you just want the most powerful and to have only one ride, I’d go m5.
