I am really considering getting it.
Any pro's/con's would be appreciated, thanks.!
Pros (for me...ymmv):
  • Smooth across all the 'maps'
  • Car pulls much stronger, but in a smooth OEM way (i.e. if you didn't know it was running piggyback, you'd think it was factory from a drive-ability perspective, but also feels it's stronger/faster than a 'regular M5')
  • I feel (just my opinion) the car will run and wear like a factory M5 that's driven hard, often, so I need to stay on top of more regular services and oil changes... which I prefer anyway
  • Can turn it down or off from the unit or from phone whenever I want
  • Can remove it and either have the dummy adapter there in less than 5m or completely remove in less than 15m, for it to be factory or factory-like
  • My dealer (PM if you want, I'm in and around GTA)

Cons (again more for me...ymmv):
  • Compared to a flash it's pretty $$... but for the flexibility of turning it up, down, off and on... it's worth it for me
  • Doesn't have option to log anything afaik (see next point)
  • Sometimes it feels like its not running as strong as it should be... maybe the ECU is detecting something it doesn't like, or understand, and holding back/throttling. Or it's just my feel of things and everything is actually running as expected (which only logging would really be able to explain). Not heat related as its been running in conditions under 3-5C the last few weeks
  • The above is rare enough that I can play it off and enjoy the 9/10 other times it doesn't feel like this.

Now I've driven an M5 with the RaceChip GTS (but not a JB4 one)... its hard to tell the difference between them, it would be down to your preference of brand/vendor, dyno, dragy or real-world driving experience.
I had JB4 on my E92 335 and it was great 7/10 of the time, something would always play or act up, either due to the car or the JB4 or both (but i loved the JB4, the car and experience nonetheless)
I had BM3 on my F80 M3 and it was great 8/10 of the time, the OTS Maps were very sensitive to the fuel (would throw CEL/limp if I filled with 93 Shell vs 94 Petro etc) and had to keep flashing between services and always felt I would mess up at some point
So, for now, I wanted a piggyback and one that was safe to plug and start playing vs praying, even if i was getting 80% of the power of the other options. (not saying JB4 isn't this, it just wasn't it for me and maybe the better choice for a majority of others)
For me, it was also down to my dealer. They work with Dinan (and many others) but didn't have RaceChip on their list afaik

There you go, hopefully this helps in some way

Yes thank you. Did you get it from Budds bmw ? I'm going to buy it a give it a whirl. Do you just use map 7 all the time or map 6 ? I assume on 94.
I also had a 335 before with various tunes vishnu/jb/openflash/cobb, All great, and yet all different in their ways.

Yes, to Budds
I've left Eco as is (3), set sport to Map 6 and Race to Map 7. Try to stick to 94 all the time, if its not, I switch to Sport from Race.

Intake is generally on track although 5/20 is probably a bit ambitous. Should clear out the backorder by end of next week though.

Inlets are waiting on the next batch of carbon to come in but even so that will only put a dent in the backorder of those. Likely won't clear out the inlet backorder til late June or July at current rates.

Shipped small batches of both the inlets and intakes out on the 19th (couple days after the last update).

Most, if not all, the balance of backorder inlets are currently being built/kitted in production. Likely ship out next week barring any issues arising.

Intakes are a now a bit more of a question mark but not for the reason they usually are (carbon). Waiting on some carbon paper that line the interior of the lids we use for emissions reasons. More is scheduled to arrive in the near future and then those can start to be kitted again. Jumped the gun the last time I posted apparently -- looking at the BOM at the time everything had plenty of stuff in stock but apparently some of that material was allocated to a different job order and consumed before the F90 M5 intake production.
