Guess I'll never understand the load #'s. For instance, my summer 19" have load #'s as follows: 105 in front and 107 in rear. The square setup is 102 all around. I was told by Michelin not to get the Pilot Sport A/S 3+ because they are 101 front and 103 rear for this car. Now BMW says 102 is ok. I just don't get it. Any thoughts appreciated.

Will they make Alpin 5's in that size? Last I checked Michelin's site, those sizes weren't included. I also went standard size 20" wheels that are being custom made. But I thought I was only limited to the Pirellis. At least this will give another option in the future.

i'm being told that the only 20 inch tires that fit staggered set up winter wheels with correct load ratings are the pirelli sottozero series II. I've had these wheels previously on M4 and thought they were great. told michelin does not have an alpine front tire with correct specs.

Hi everyone... have two friends (yea, only two ) One got a M550 this summer and one got a M5.
1. As noted, the wheels are not compatible. The bolt pattern is fine, it is the offset. 2. BMW recommends the square setup in 19" wheels for the M5 because a) More tire to absorb those lovely potholes with the 19s" b) skinnier tires do better in the winter. 3. As noted, BMW sells the complete set (since they are all the same tire/wheel, they are sold individually). This is nice because a) it is a real BMW wheel not a knock off b) comes with everything you need - TPMS, balanced - heck, even the BMW center cap c) is covered by your warranty and your tire and wheel warranty if you purchased that Alas, it is more money to "do it yourself" and buy the wheels and then add your preferred snow tire - plus TPMS, plus mounting, plus balancing... and I drove on 20" all seasons here in Chicago (swapped out my summer run flats on my 650GC). I had the Continental DWS tires. There were "ok" - the scary part is that occasionally the car would decide it was time to just sort of track towards the curb and you would just pray that it would correct - which it did. But let me tell you, I missed having 19" or even 18" wheels in the snow. 20" wheels just kind of suck - for a lot of reasons. But they sure do look cool HTH

FYI. For those looking for the 20" snow tires in the OEM fit, it seems like Tire Rack is getting the Pirellis in stock sooner than they thought. Seems like they are back in stock tomorrow.

Are you sure the winter wheel/tire set is covered by same policy? I was told the coverage is only for the OEM wheel/tires on the car when bought, not a winter setup.

My contract says OEM wheel and tires on car when new are covered as well as new tires mounted on the same wheels. Just called and confirmed it DOES cover the winter set as long as they are a standard BMW offering.

Does anybody know if there are other options for the 20" wheels beyond summer tires and the winter Pirellis tire rack has? I have the oem summer Pirellis now and I want to replace them - just to see if all the vibration I am getting is because of them - but with winter low temperatures coming I don't want to go with the summer Michelin.
We only get snow/ice here in TN maybe once a year but temps do go down to under freezing morning and nights from December to March or so. |

I have been searching and cannot find an all season performance tire that meets the complete specs. The load factor on the front / rear on the summer tires is 102 / 104. I can find the Michelin 3S+ only in a 100 in the rear size.
