No surprise it was coming, as great as first cockpit is, it is rather basic, which could be a good thing but I like this new version and can't wait to demo it.

Had similar in last car. I'm unaware as to what bmw will provide with live cockpit, but after 1.5 yrs with the amg version, it's a gimmick mostly. Certainly looks cool, but I'm happy to be back in a more simple display mode with the m5. Too much info was not a good thing for me. I'll def go check it out when my dealer gets one in.

I felt the same as well. I liked the first implementation, but in the back of my mind I always compared to what Audi and Mercedes offered. This new offering seems to be a step closer to that for those who wanted a more custom experience which is nice.

I prefer the current cluster. I have driven the G20 with the Live Cockpit Professional, and I must say while it is good, I wasn't impressed. It is far less usable and intuitive than Audi and Mercedes clusters.

Aragon interior is badass. You will love it. Live Cockpit might be great but the previous is fine. Once you punch it you will not notice either version.

not trying to hate on the new cluster but the current one looks way better imho. im not use to the weird shape of the new cluster. But since my car has been in the dealership for multiple problems i have driven both the 2019 x5 and the 2020 750i with the live cockpit. I find it super gimmicky. the map doesnt show much info, no street names, it doesnt zoom out only shows a certain distance on the route you are travelling. i assume its there to help you navigate the streets around you? i dont see any other use for it. i do notice the new head up displays gives more detailed directions. To me i drive 7 does seem faster and have more functions. i especially appreciate the feature that locks and unlocks you car as your approach or leave the vehicle( not sure if it is an option on our current cars). Would there be a way to update our systems to idrive 7 since if it is just software?

If you are talking about just the os itself i'm sure it is possible, but there are more sensors, especially an extra camera (total of 3 vs 2 for current 5 series). This is the reason why acc is better for the recent id7 vehicles (g05 x5, g20 3, etc) |

I went back and forth on the live cockpit. At first I didn't think I wanted it, then i went and drove an 8 series to see it in action and it is pretty cool, and it seems like all new BMW's will have that. Also, we really haven't seen an M version of live cockpit. The M5 or M8 would be the first, correct?

I do like my current dash, but It's very basic and boring, even with the m button pressed, it's nothing special, I had a play with the new x5, and the new I drive, it was complicated at first, it grew on me, got back in mine felt dated

Does the 2020 still have the in dash CD player? Looks like some pictures show a blank cover where the CD was on the '19

Personally I say change it, as the comp and normal m5 are losing too much money, the new one will hold for a bit, they giving comp packs away atm with 20k discounts

In Switzerland we have the CD as an option for about USD 130.- for the 2020 Model.

I've had Live Cockpit in my Audi Q7 for 3 years now, took a little getting use to but it's fine. I agree that the current cluster with the rings is cool/retro, but from a functionality perspective, its far far behind Audi and Merc. They had no choice, they had to move to the newer cockpit to stay in line with the competition.
