Hows Reliability been for owners of more than a year?
Hey everyone. M3 guy here looking into my next car. Drove the M5 Comp a couple weeks back and man oh man, I think it might be the one. I have been searching around here for any common problems people may be having. Not much on here so far. Can some folks who bought close to the release date comment on reliability and any issues experienced? Appreciate the feedback!

13 months, 17500 miles.
There were 2 recalls early on (engine cutting out, and the fuel tank line issue), but nothing after July. My one complaint is brake squeal. Otherwise everything is fine. |

On track (my primary use for the car)
Check engine light every time I go out for two days (emissions related, I ignore and they clear themselves mostly) Brake pads are ONLY available from the dealer suitable for track (so far). And the pads are NOT THAT BAD for track. They squeal something terrible on the street, but that's because they aren't that bad for track. Need something that squeals worse for track. Shawn |

Got a check engine light due to an O2 sensor. It reset itself after a while, and I haven't done anything about it. No significant problems other than that. Just some minor stuff like squeaks and rattles, and a somewhat flaky power trunk that occasionally (although rarely) doesn't open fully. I don't drive it much, though.

7,000 miles and no brake squeal or body rattles. This is only my second BMW, but both my M5 and previous F10 have felt like they were carved out of granite.

I have had the 2017 M3 CP and TBH this car trumps it in every way.

I would say mine has not been reliable. 14 months old, 8k miles. 3 CELs required a total of 10 days at dealer. Fuel tank electronics replacement, engine software update, and crank case pressure sensor replacement. My steel brakes are very squeaky, but held up well during a track day.
It’s still worth owning, but don’t expect to have a trouble free car.

A few people on this thread have complained of brake noise. I had the same issue and purchased aftermarket pads and now all is quiet again. If you do a search you will find the link to aftermarket pads.

Absolutely! You can buy a small car for a set of CCBs. My brakes got hot when I tracked the car but no observable fade. I'm not saying they're equivalent, I am saying they're good enough for repeatedly running 5 or 7 consecutive 2.5 mile laps.
