But, the more i drove the Competition, the more i thought it could do with being, not as stiff. Folks can change their minds you know. All i can do, is say as i find, and thats what i have done. Both cars are a wonder, but im suggesting to anyone interested in buying one, drive both of them. And the title of that thread was, very first thoughts, but over time, that changed |

It has to be said...if they really want to improve the M5C they will soften the ride in comfort mode. Period.
I love the car but don't understand why this is somehow an impossible dream. There should simply be a greater range of suspension adjustment from Comfort to Sport+. Comfort should be exactly that...comfort...not "slightly less stiff than race mode." I prefer the competition overall but the stiffness of the F90 (both models) is fair criticism. Call me crazy but I want 7 series comfort on tap. (or at least G30...)

M5C Ride Quality
Quote:
I have not driven the base, but the aesthetics of the M5C are attractive enough that having a slightly less firm ride is not enough for me to consider the base. I also have a E92 M3 and a ‘18 Targa 4 GTS which I’ve said is the Swiss Army knife of sports cars. However, I feel like you trade off much less as far as comfort with the M5C. My opinion is that the M5C is much less harsh than people have described, but appropriately firm with good feedback. Hope this helps! |

I had a Non comp M5 for 3-4 months. Drove a Comp for a day and prefer the comp 10 out of 10 times. It's more buttoned down and it's not really 17hp it's more real life HP than that. Highway runs the Comp to me felt a bit stronger

Again I find the same , a bit more bite in the Comp. The wife can testify to it she does get pushed back in the seat more.

Believe it or not, i am pleased for the Competition owners that feel the love for their cars, as it means it is the right car for you, period. But i have to say, i stand by opinion after using the standard car for a weekend. It took one particular drive over a mountain type road to cement this opinion. The way the softer car absorbed the dips, turns, bumps and hard edged lips was a revelation to me, and the car was quicker across the ground for it. When in comfort suspension, the car is as compliant and cosseting as my X5, but in sport mode, it is about perfect for me, and i was pretty happy with it. So i would still recommend trying both versions if you are on the fence

I don't understand people complaining about the F90 ride quality. I am not aware of any car over 600hp with ride comfort as excellent as that of the F90. A few possibile exceptions would be maybe the S63 AMG, Panny Turbo S and Bentley Continental GT.
The Comp is a little stiffer (got to drive it in Germany, as there is no Comp in Brazil), but it is not that much worse. In very rough crappy roads I would probably be happier with the base F90, but 90% of the times it is all the same. |

I chose standard M5 over comp, and I had a choice of either. No regrets. My buddy has a M5C, I've driven his, and been a passenger. I'd still get standard.

I have the Comp and have driven both. I had the M550ix while waiting for the F90. The M550ix was super soft, but the way it hit big bumps - it sounded like a gunshot the way the suspension traveled (and busted up a few low profile winter tires BMW sourced for me). The F90 suspension is stiffer - but I actually find it handles bumps in a more supple way. The beefier suspension seems to soak up bumps that much better in my opinion, especially bigger bumps and the car feels more sure footed with that extra tautness when a bump appears. The CE takes it slightly further. Again - I feel the extra tightness helps the over-all smoothness of the ride. It is slightly more stiff than the standard car, but I do not see a disadvantage and have never felt an abusive ride from it.
Being fair - the moment the word "feel" is used, it becomes a subjective argument that no one can be right in except for their own perspective - so it is kind of moot anyway. The extra poke (I have run 10.8x at 129.5 MPH bone stock, charcoal filters in, stock tire pressure plus baby seat) - and some of the other little things, made it worth the extra cost to me. That said - whatever floats your boat. I tend to like suspension with more of a sporty edge versus pure comfort. |

Does the competition have any (even if small) components in the engine that are different ? I know the F10 competition did over the non comp. (I forgot what it was exactly tho, i think it was fuel related)

A List: The 2019 BMW M5 competition has 617 horsepower, 17 horsepower more than the M5. The 4.4 liter S63 twin turbo V8 has 25.9 psi of turbo boost and 5000 psi fuel injectors - we talk about why those things are such a big deal and what BMW did to cope with the new power. The 2019 BMW M5 competition sits 7mm lower than a standard M5, has shortened front links and no rear toe link bushings whatsoever, opting for ball joints instead. The 2019 BMW M5 competition wheels are 6.6 pounds lighter than the stock M5 wheels. The M5 Competition ceramic brakes are 42 pounds lighter than the standard M5 brakes. The M5 competition exhaust is a sport exhaust that is a bit meaner than the standard M5 exhaust. The M5 competition for 2019 has cross bolted main bearings for added strength. The M5 competition motor mounts are 55% stiffer than a stock M5 yet the interior is vibration free. The m5 competition trunk is 19 cubic feet. M5 competition mpg is 15 city and 21 highway - overall, the M5 competition fuel economy is 17 mpg combined which is astounding for a 4300 pound all-wheel-drive. The m5 competition 2019 wheelbase is over 117 inches long and it is very roomy for 5 adults. The 2019 BMW M5 competition 0-60 is tested at 2.8 seconds. The 2019 BMW M5 competition 70-0 brake distance is 146 feet or within 4 feet of the Ferrari 812 Superfast.

I actually wonder the same thing... it sounds like it just has a different software which allows for more boost and a different fuel map. Are there any mechanical components in the engine that are different on the competition???? |
