I agree with the article's main assessment.

I don't think it's the end. Porsche has definitely gone through some changes starting with the 996, the Cayenne and the Macan. Their sales and production numbers have gone through the roof since then even though many see those changes as selling out.

Let's see. They create a 991.1 R that immediately starts selling for 3-7x MSRP. They add a manual Touring to the 991.2 GT3 and it sells like crazy. They consistently set the N'Ring record and just obliterate it with the 919, beating even the old record set by a 956 decades earlier. Yep, seems like they're struggling, imma buy a Jaguar now.

Biggest $ margin per car in the entire industry.

They have never been more powerful, efficient, and reliable as they are now.

The end is nowhere in sight.

Adapt or Die..... Porsche is simply adapting, and doing quite well actually

I guess they were supposed to just keep making 911's

Meh - we here about this every time and with every iconic manufacturer.

Do we remember?

1969: Arrg! A 914. Porsche has lost it's way - now it is just building VWs!
1977: What! A 928. Porsche has lost it's way - building a front engine V8!
1982: End of the World! A 944. Porsche has lost it's way - building a cheap 4cyl engine econo-hatch!
1999: Blasphamy! A 996. Porsche has lost it's way - building a water cooled 911!
2003: This is the End! A Cayenne. Porsche has lost it's way - building an SUV!

And so on, and so forth.

Yet who builds the most profitable vehicles in the world?

Porsche

Well yeah, I agree with the SUV comment.

Goddamn it, we need to make every automaker that makes these X6/GLE coupe/Cayenne coupes completely lose their shirts on these models so that the madness stops

"No analog speedo is a crime against all kids who may peer into a parked 911. All kids want to know how fast a car goes."

And only a really stupid kid thinks most cars are actually capable of reaching the top speed on the speedometer.

Though; Boxster, Cayman sales I think are poor. Dealer markup's on GT3/RS have really pissed off a lot of long time Porsche purchasers. The new 992 with flush door handles.
SUV's off of Audi underpinnings.
A recession, Tesla and electrics.

There could be financial reasons why Porsche is due for a shakeup. I'm not sure McLaren, Aston Martin, Lotus, Bugatti are in good enough shape to continue extant.

The Cayenne Coupe will sell well given it’s makes the X4 and X6 look even uglier than they are and actually looks good on the inside too. Plus it will drive and perform better too.

Speedos are dumb, having a big, analog tach right in the middle is perfect.

Cayenne proves if u install big tires and brakes and fancy roll bars on a Volkswagen you cam make it handle.

If Ford can survive exploding Pintos; Porsche can survive a less-than-beautiful SUV.
