Talking 2020 Porsche Cayenne Coupe

I'd consider this when X6M lease is up.

Looks just like a larger/bloated Macan. I hate the small/medium/large styling cue that manufacturers are doing these days with cars - just laziness for sale volumes

Porsche doesn't have enough R&D money for a new gen Cayman/Boxster but they're able to come out with a new coupe SUV. It shows where their prioritizes are.

Yeah, totally weird that they'd build to where volume is. Plus they could just keep building the current Box/Cay and it would sell just fine. It's a great chassis.

And the CLS came out ages ago and was called a coupe, how are people just now catching onto this? Literally every brand has some form of four door "coupe."

Would it also surprise people that a whole island of people pronounce the word CoopAy?

And this is less ugly than the horrible X6, X4, GLC and GLE coupes, some of the ugliest cars of history.

I like it. I personally like the smaller/mid size SUV's. I'm currently in the market for something bigger than the 335i I'm driving now, but don't want something bigger than I need. I'm really considering a GLK 350 as my next purchase.

It's a pretty good SUV, although it's not too big - depending on your needs. It looks good.

To each his own. You either love the X6 or you hate it. I love it. I have the best of both worlds. Handles like a sports car and has higher ground clearance and AWD for winter. It's like a 6er and an X5 had a baby. It's my daily driver. Works for me.

Porsche is a sports car company. They want to abandon their roots and focus on SUVs then people will go elsewhere.

I see you didn't jump ship on BMW when they started making SUVs in 1999. Or when they starting offering ///Ms in AWD instead of only RWD. No one said anything about abandoning their roots. Why can't a company do both?

They build cars that sell. Americans don't buy cars, they buy SUV's. There are those of us that will not drive SUVs, and Porsche continues to sell sports cars. If that stops, I'll see your argument, but selling SUVs to fund the sports cars is fine with me.

To your earlier point about the Cayman and Boxster, they're still the best cars in their category by a large margin. Why change them?

P knows exactly where and how to spend their R&D and in priority order the 718s are at the bottom. Im sure you know the Macan is their top seller and along with this Cayenne allow P to do everything else cool that they do with the 911 and now with the Taycan. I too rather a coupe like designed sav since lets face it most people buying very sporty savs are not doing it for the small sacrifice is space in the trunk height, you want something that looks nice which this does along with the offerrings from bmw of X2/X4/X6 and im sure eventally X8.
They’ll sell a ton of them

Which is funny, because in the U.S., the majority of Porsche buyers don't even realize that the company makes sports cars.

(This has been proven by surveys prompted by dealer feedback to Porsche N.A., then to Porsche A.G.)

Sorry, but you're wrong. Look at sales figures, then look at company priorities, then look at popular belief. SUVs dominate, and have for a number of years now.

Porsche markets itself as a sports car company, yes -- but its definition of sports car is not the same as yours, and hasn't been for well before it even began thinking about making the first Cayenne.

People were also up in arms when Cadillac started building SUVs. Turns out they really had their crystal ball shined up nicely since almost nobody is now buying their sedans and the SUVs are the only thing keeping the brand afloat. One could also argue their sedan game has never been so good (barring the golden years in the 50s and 60s), proving just how dead that market is. I'm not even mentioning Ford, who is abandoning sedans altogether.

The coupe SUV actually makes sense for Porsche as I doubt many people are doing dump runs or picking up a new dishwasher with their Cayenne Turbos. Porsche is the same brand that makes no less than 27 variants of the 911 and 18 variants of the Panamera. The addition of the two coupe models brings the grand total of Cayenne variants to.... six. Everyone take a breather. We'll get past this.

Looks really nice actually.

BMW invented this segment but their entries have consistently been the frumpiest looking.

Your point is very valid but in Cadillac's case, nobody buys their sedans because they have been varying degrees of total junk to mediocre for over 50 years. The latest ATS/CTS/CT6 have been their best efforts in decades but are still mediocre relative to competitors.

Sedans are still a viable market for brands who know what the hell they are doing.

I miss the looks of the E71 X6. The new body style isn't as mean looking, it's more pretty than mean and is starting to look just like the rest of the lineup.

Yeah the E71 pulled it off the best. The current X6 and outgoing X4 were pretty poorly done in my opinion. Even the new X4 isn't as slick as the GLC coupe.

This decision feels akin to picking which one of these twins is prettier.
