#sad for the M5. Latest and greatest tech and upended by a decade old car with a simple tune. Thing is, that Porsche is at the bottom end of it's depreciation curve. The M5 is at the top and looking to make the cliff dive down.

Why? Because the 5 series is not a sports car. It's a sedan. Maybe you can get 1 of your 4 friends to explain it to you over dinner.

Personally, I would take either of the other two over the 2 ton Titanic...uh I mean M5....I know, I know..."It's not a boat...it's a yacht."

Bolt on GTR's - and by that I mean stock turbos as some like to state after market turbos are bolt ons - GTR's stay at about 625 awtq because after that rods bend. You could do a higher awhp/lower awtq tune - which some do - but in general - you are looking at 600/600 on average for a FBO GTR (E85 just has a better power curve).

At least he has four friends. Tuned versus stock is dumb. A highly tuned Civic will run 7's in the 1/4 and cost less than the M5 CP. I don't want to drive the Civic as my daily. Conversely, I could beat many cars with my GTR and the Lambo/Bugatti/Koenigsegg owners will still likely want to keep their cars (As would I - and I am big Porsche fan for the record).

There was only one Omega GTR - that was AMS's test mule. It has been replaced by customer cars (which much much more power). The last Omega was the test mule for my package - the Alpha 16. A motorbike is faster than both the GTR and Porsche and costs a lot less. Why not just get a bike?

I mean you are right the M5 is a luxury sedan that can seat 5 and the other 2 are sports cars that can realistically seat 2. A bike can seat 2 too. Bike wins!

Car wow seems to enjoy BMW bashing these days. This drag race compares to modified sports cars to a standard super saloon.

Overwhelmingly, this presenter seems love to find ways to show up BMW models over various car tests.

After initial launch at higher speeds, it really just comes down to a pure horsepower to air resistance battle. Since the M5 and GTR had very close peak power with a similar power band, and I'm guessing they have similar aero profiles, they're basically going to hit the same speeds. All those mods are just to get higher power figures right? 640hp is 640hp and 620hp is 620hp. You can see that in the rolling race, the cars are basically neck and neck with the GT-R just pulling ahead. That makes a lot of sense given the above explanation.

And regarding other commenters saying this test was unfair. This comparison wasn't to diss the M5 Comp. The M5 comp has silly acceleration figures beating a lot of supercars. It's fun seeing really fast cars drag race. No one actually considers this a serious comparison test. Some of you guys need to lighten up a bit. The M5 is obviously the most luxurious while the GT-R and Porsche are more track machines. No one is cross shopping them unless they're just buying a car for image.

I mean, you said it yourself so why is it sad that the M5 was slower than 2 highly modified sports cars? It's an executive sedan and zero people buy it to run quarter miles even though it happens to be quick.

I love the amount of comments from people who have 0 to no understanding of the M5's appeal.

The M5 is meant for people who want a car that does it all or who want a fast and capable car to travel with family and etc. It is not meant for a 911 or GTR owner. It is impressive that it gets cross shoped with this car due to its ability.

I can not afford to have a 911 and a fast saloon (say an S7) and a luxury cruiser (S560, or even a 540iM). If I had this 3 cars I would have twice as much equity invested in depreciating assets (which makes 0 sense). So I just bought a F90 M5 which does the job pretty well and I know well its cost of ownership. Plus I can take the kids to school in Efficiency and go to work in full Sport Plus

That said - beating liter bikes once modded isn’t that challenging. Even S1000RR’s - which are quicker and faster than most liter bikes - HP4 - even the H2R which was taken down by an Alpha 12 equivalent GTR. In the end - there is always something quicker and faster than you.

We don't need to overreact to videos like this. I just view those videos as a good barometer of what kind of results one might expect out there on the streets, where you are not always going up against cars in the same segment.
