F90 M5 comp vs e63s AMG [Carwow drag race]

Something up with the roll race, but m5 comp is the quicker car IMO

The E63 S got a small jump, but the Bimmah was reeling in. Anyhow these cars are very evenly matched (be it non Comp or Comp), so whoever gets the jump wins

I was never a big fan off Merc. Hats down to Bimmer again, they manage to do have slight edge and outperforming competition. Specially on the track this is where ///M shines

I've driven both, in straight line acceleration they are so so similar. Amazing how matched they are, I'll always go for the dynamics of the BMW but still impressive for midsize sedans!

Stock vs stock I have to say Mercedes sounds way better.
I needed to do something about it so I took the whole exhaust out and down pipes and replaced it with Eisenmann

What's the point of racing from a roll if you force both cars into 3rd gear? Both transmissions are geared differently, especially since the BMW has an 8-speed and Benz has a 9-speed. I'm not looking it up but most likely the Benz has a deeper 3rd gear as a result, but either way, forcing both cars into 3rd is not representative of actual street driving.

If you want to see who would actually win "from a roll", the test is simple - you both just floor it and see what happens. The transmissions will kick down to whatever gear is appropriate, and whoever wins wins.

Funny thing is that what you describe is exactly how Carwow always conducts roll races but everyone complained so this is the first time I’ve seen them roll race like this. I agree with you, I want to see the responsiveness of the transmission, traction control sensitivity, etc all factored in to show how quickly the car actually gets moving when you stand on the throttle pedal. Best compromise would be to do both types of roll races.

They are both sedans that weigh over 2 tons with similar displacement twin turbo v8s with automatics transmissions....what's amazing?

What would be amazing is if it weren't close.

What's amazing is that on a cloudy moist day they were able to both do low 11s. So incredible

In 3rd at 50mph, the M5 is at 4130rpm and is putting 14,311 newtons to the road (750nm * 2.143 * 3.15 / 0.3537)

The E63S is at 4350rpm and is putting 17,087 newtons to the road (850nm * 2.25 * 3.06 / 0.3425)

So it should get take off quite a bit quicker than the M5. However the top of 3rd for it is 80.4mph for the E63S and 88.0mph for the M5 so when the E63s changes into 4th the M5 will be back making more torque to the road. Unfortunately that doesn't even out the initial jump the E63S got.

The two cars are truly great cars. The performance from MB is undeniable. I am always biased towards BMW. But this E63 is the third AMG to ever get my attention. With that said. These runs are predictable. Nothing new to be discovered.

I was thinking the same thing. They are geared differently.

M5 isn't on Sport mode

guys Look at M5 Dashboard. you can see letter D << this means car is on normal drive mode not Sport mode (when M5 F90 is on Sport mode there is no D letter on dashboard, when it's on Sport mode, there is Just Gears numbers)

for example in this video till 0:58 is on normal driving mode.. from 0:58 is on Sport mode

Absolutely incorrect!!!!!

Like, you couldn't be more wrong.

The large Letter and Number ONLY show wether the car is in Automatic Mode or Manual Shift Mode.

Large Letter "D" = Auto
Large Number "1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8" = Manual

Efficient, Sport, Sport+ Throttle setting has zero effect on said Letter vs Number, as do the Shift Logic Settings and Suspension settings.

Please be sure you're correct before posting.

Not to mention THE MOST BASIC FACT OF THEM ALL...M's don't have a "sport" mode to begin with.

I traded in my 2015 X5M for the 2019 M5. Had the X5 tuned and doing around 11.7 quarter mile at 3000 altitude. Sure the X5M looks great and sits higher and surprises a lot of people on the acceleration, but that transmission in stop and go traffic was awful. Hard cornering wasn't great either, scary sometimes. The M5 is the ultimate driver's vehicle.
Well said from someone that has ACTUALLY owned both vehicles. Thank you.

If you notice in the video “D” is on the dash which means it wasn’t in proper launch control mode and no flags!! Supposed to be in “S3” for launch to activate.. once again he screwed up but the m5C still won.. lol
