The G20 is getting a lot of praise, the strategy might pay off. Let's see.

A RWD, a AWD normal and a Competition with the M5's switchable AWD. They said it will have the same powertrain as the X3M (with the ZF8 as well).

It will be a mini M5. I think BMW moved in the wrong direction with the M3, as it should be much more driver oriented than the M5 (given that the M5 is a car for wealthy business people, who want excitement in their commute or weekend, the M3 is for hard core keen drivers).

Lots of reasons to get an M5 over M3; bigger luxury HWY beast. Sit back mash the gas pedal and go! I think the 760 Alpina is now the faster than the M3 also in a straight line...

For me if I'm getting a car that big my needle is leaning on Luxury, comfort how quite the cabin is etc.

"Most M3 owners are focused on the driving experience; 0 to 60; 1/4 time and trap speeds all important but those numbers to take a back seat to the driving "Experience". The C63's and Alpha both have 500HP+; somehow the M3 is still faster around a track.

It's a great time to be a car enthusiast because you can get exactly what you want.

Will have to see how it looks like, but not a fan of the G20's look at the moment.

I admit the new M3 may be more fun to drive, but no way am I giving up my M5C to get one. If I had the cash to get an extra M car I think I would go with the M2C. That car just looks fun to drive.

Won't move me! I bought the M5 because of it's size and also because it finally went AWD. I use it as my daily and have a family of 5...

Size considerations/Family will always be a major consideration that will not change people out of a bigger to smaller car.

It will be interesting to see what the limits (how much practicality you lose) are versus the advantages of a (potentially) more sporty car.

I love the M5 but, approximately 800lbs less weight is huge and I can get one off the last MT that ///M will have

Agreed. The Pure model might be a future classic since it'll be the last manual M car (if M2 follows the trend) of the most iconic BMW in history.

But with over 500hp in the M3C it'll definitely attract a lot of prospects.

Went from a F10 M5 to a F80 M3. What a downgrade. Picked up the F90 M5 today so am chuffed again. Don’t think I can ever go back to the M3. Way too small. Looking forward to the M8 Gran Coupe in around 18 months time though...

The F80 M3 IMO is overrated. Engine is dire and it sounds rubbish. The E46 was way ahead of its time as was the E92. F80, seriously struggled to live with it on a daily basis. Or maybe am just getting old...

OP was more talking about G80 not F80
Which in mine opinion will be a much better car then F80 and slightly bigger

Well, before you consider the new M3, how about the M5 CS or M5 CSL that may be coming?

I have the M5 CE so either I am staying with the platform - or going with the smaller platform. The question is whether the lower power/lower price - but with AWD and smaller car will make it an actual worthy option.

I'm not sure what this pic does for or against? Apparently 510 HP - AWD.

the m5/m6 appeals to a different "class" if you will.

so a majority of people driving the higher tiered M's wouldn't be seen in a "3 series"

hardly any m5/m6 owner is going to say "this new m3 is lighter and faster than my m5, i want it"

Interesting. That is exactly what I was saying to myself. I guess I must not worry about what other people think.

For the same reason I wouldn't have a M8, M6, M4, M3 or M2, the M5 is the perfect M car for me because it's more then powerful enough for an everyday driver plus big enough for my family or 4 adults with a loaded trunk to travel in.
