Sport Edition Wheels
I like some of the wheel stylings this company has, and I like that tirerack carries them. However, they are fairly inexpensive and I haven't heard much talk about them, so I question their quality.
Does anyone have any long term experience with this wheel brand? How do they hold up over the years? Can they handle northern Illinois winters? Thanks in advance. |

I've already bought the KM-11's for winter use on my 1. Great value in those wheels, IMO.

Gill, the KM11's can take a BMW center cap.

I ordered (from TireRack, of course) some sort of Sport Edition rims with Michelin X-Ice tires for my '02 GTI and they held up brilliantly. Most people thought they were stock rims, and despite the fact I loved the 18" BBS RCs that came with my GTi, the SEs were nice enough that I didn't mind keeping them on until I knew all the snow was behind us.

I had a bad experience with Sport Edition Wheels on a 2005.5 New Jetta in New York. I got the cheapest kind -- something like $129 per wheel.
I guess I didn't clean the wheels enough in between seasons and I experienced a lot of corrosion and pitting after 2.5 years. Afterwards I complained to Tire Rack and got a $50 certificate towards future purchases since the warranty only lasted 2 years. If I had bought VW wheels they would have cost double but they would have been warranteed for life. My advice is don't expect too much and be pleased if you get a bunch of seasons out of the wheels--and clean the wheels from salt and brake dust especially when you store them in the summers! Or maybe just spend a little more and find something with a longer warranty. William |

I have used the KM11s with drag radials for the track. I have had no issues, look great especially with BMW center cap. I will be using them with winter tires as well. We'll see how they hold up. No salt where I'm at though...only sand.

Gill (or anyone),
are you careful to clean the wheels regularly when there's salt on the roads? Am I going to get into trouble if I only clean them, say once a month during the heavy winter months. I'm also somewhat skeptical of the price of Sport edition rims, so I'd like more feedback.

I also bought KM11 for my winter tires. Looks great in person. Actually I am pretty impressed with its quality for the price. Will have to see how good they hold up after this winter.
