No. I have DEI turbine blankets for the little GT22 turbos, wrapped primaries and secondaries, and heat shield tape under the upper sheetmetal and on the bottom and sides of the tank.

The PTP blanket just drapes over the turbines and cats. It will reduce heat rising to the coolant tank. But it also blankets heat in the V of the V8, probably increasing thermal load on the engine coolant and oil. The more ideal approach in my opinion is to contain the heat in the turbine and piping so it goes out the exhaust to the extent possible.

The best system would also include a coated manifold. But that would be a lot of work.

Reducing the restrictions in the exhaust that trap heat also helps, but affects the warranty and legality.

Makes sense. I’m currently catless “thermal coated” dinan x pipe down to akrapovic mufflers. No issues with the tank as of yet but I also do not daily anymore. Let’s see how long she lasts

Very clever, looks like you're using off-the-shelf parts as well. What'd you do to accomplish this?

I assume he wants to profit from his work by selling a kit rather than providing the details so you can DIY, but should not be hard to identify the tank and re-route or extend or cut hoses as necessary. Under those plastic hose fittings the clip-fit in place is a hose barb that you can reuse for a new hose or on a cut hose, and BMW sells the clamps or you can use a generic oettinger clamp that fits.

I thought about this at one point, but was leaning towards the cavity behind the shock tower instead. Probably this guy did as well and determined that just in front of the tower was easier. You do have to give up your stock intake boxes and use filters in the engine bay like CTS Turbo, BMS and MAD sell or the rubber or metal tubes leading to cone filters behind the front grilles that several other vendors sell.

I replaced my 2018 coolant tank with the new part number in 2023, and I've already seen signs of leakage around the cap. This is apparently going to be an ongoing issue.

My theory on the cap is excess pressure from expansion due to either heat or overfilling it. It can vent all over the place or just dribble out the channel and down the side and then travel in it along the seam. Reports are that the seam itself has leaked in some cases.

Agreed. Makes me reluctant to install a stronger aluminum tank because then some other plastic coolant system component may start leaking elsewhere.

Even the $1000 aluminum tanks - I think there are 2 now - use the stock cap so venting should still occur if that is the issue. But the aluminum tanks do address the reports of pinhole leaks developing along the seam on the plastic tanks. I am curious whether those leaks also develop due to excess heat or pressure or a combination of both.

Interesting. Well as long as there is some pressure venting, maybe an aluminum tank will be the way to go, if I can confirm that the replacement OEM tank leaks along the seams too, and not just around the cap.

Well, it finally happened. I checked about a week ago and it was fine. 2019 comp, 28k miles after some spirited driving in sports plus. Splash marks indicate its from the seams for me rather than the cap.
