My car is at the dealership... I get paid in two days.

Here's my situation: I just started a job and I was planning on using my first paycheck as the down-payment. That first paycheck doesn't come in until friday... meanwhile my car is ready to be picked up.

Here's my question: would it be unreasonable for them to let me drive it *now* and give give them the money once I get paid? How about if I leave them a postdated-check?

It's such a nice bright sunny day here in Seattle and I want to drive my car home TODAY!!! Please help... any advice appreciated!

To be honest I don't see that happening, I could be wrong but chances are not too good. Has the car already been financed? Hope it all works out for you.

Do you have a credit card you could use for the down payment? Just have them charge your credit card for the down payment and then pay it off in full once you get your check. Problem solved and you'll be in your E90 today! :rocks:

I doubt they will release the car without the payment you are supposed to make. My dealer refused to release my car until they saw the money in their account! It's only 2 more days...just wait it out! (or the credit card idea...think of the miles)

E90Newbie:

Are you sure you're only a newbie to the E90? No one will give you anything worth $35-$45K without your obligations being completely fulfilled unless you have a very special relationship with them. If you're a normal customer, forget it.

You don't have money in the bank? Credit Card (as previously suggested)? No way they're going to give you the car without payment up front.

Your First paycheck. How'd you even get the credit to buy the car. What interest rate did they give you. Very, Very unlikely they'll let you take it without gettin the money.

Good Luck!!!!!

I feel for you E90newbee,

I have been waiting from 18th July until 30th July (yep, this Saturday) for my credit card limit to be temporarily lifted and for its cycle to clock through so I won't have to pay for it until early September.

Granted I am in an E46 323i so its not too bad at all having to wait the 2 odd weeks.

Don't worry, we will be in our cars very soon, whichever way you finance it.
Drive safely.

So what are you going to do for food, rent, gas, insurance after you used your paycheck as a downpayment?

Who needs that stuff when you have a E90?

No, seriously though, I meant to say that i'll be using *part* of that paycheck for the downpayment...

To be honest...if you are relying on your paycheck for this, you should not be buying this car. You should have know what you need for funds. Never live outside of your paycheck.

Eh he sounds like a young guy just starting work. A little financial irresponsibility is ok when you're young sometimes. Might be his dream to own a 3 series. So he'll be tight for a while financially but he'll be driving a dream and hopefully he'll work hard enough and get raises and such so things will get better. Have fun with it e90newbie!

sounds like a sure way to end up having kids, house .......

and never getting to enjoy the things you want like a BMW

money comes in and goes out for everyone, don't try and judge other people's financial desicions.
How're your 401K contributions Frank, you maxing those out???

Well... I left the dealer without leaving my down payment. It was their fault they forgot to get it from me, and I was too excited to even notice. I called the dealer next day, and asked if they were missing $5000? He came and picked it up 2 days later. He didn't really make it out to be a big deal. It never hurts to ask.

I agree with you. Some people get over their head. But that's why the economy is so good. Let them spend it...it'll be better for all of us.

but to stay on topic, I'd say you better wait till Friday before you get your car. I highly doubt that they'll give you the car unless it's your dad that sold you the car.

Amen Ward, I'm young and had to make the same decision when I bought my first car just after I started my first good paying job, luckily I was responsible enough to use my bonus to pay off all my credit cards (btw it's never a good idea to pay tuition with credit cards- BIG mistake lol) but I needed a car so I splurged on a slightly used audi a4.

Now I'm upgrading to a brand new 325i , luckily for e90newbie it sounds like he should be making decent enough money to finance his car and further needs, so I won't judge since I've been there myself...my only advice is go the credit card route too, that and don't get too excited driving that first new car, I was and quickly got 2 speeding tickets right after which has allowed my assurance to bend me over for the last 3 years
Enjoy the bimmer! :rocks:
