Very tempted by the RS6...

So I've decided to change from my 2018 M5 (non Comp). I had been thinking for a while that this would absolutely mean a new LCI Comp or maybe the CS. We can't order the LCI Comp yet in HK but should be able to do so in a couple of months and I was also waiting to see in that time if the CS may tick a few more boxes than the Comp....(4 seats as rumoured would be a 'No' as 3 kids).

Must Haves(!) are the launch red and the midrand beige/black interior and as much alcantara as possible....

Then I popped into Audi and as usual the standard spec RS6 in HK is really loaded with the red diamond stitching on seats and all of cabin, cooled seats, sports exhaust, B&O and just seems a lot more tech. Lots of alcantara options too. And comes standard in Tango Red whereas a 'special' colour red on the M5 will be circa GBP10k after Tax. The M5 Comp starting $$ will be at least GBP10k more than the RS6.

Really dislike the touch screens in the audi too......but Wow, oh Wow, it is such a good looking car!! The haunches 'have it' over the M5's flat rear...and the 22" wheels are standard too....

Yes it won't be quite as quick as a LCI Comp.... but should be similar to my current M5 so probably no loss.

But then again, it's not an M5, it's not such an icon or even such a car to be so proud of owning....I still always look back at my MBB M5 with such a sensation of pride...who know if an RS6 will endear as much....

Anyway, I'm imagining this may be a dilemma for quite a few of us so thought I'd share as it is a real (1st world for sure) dilemma and would value others thoughts.....

Audi is winning my $$$ 60/40 for now...

I'm pretty sure it will feel like the front end of the car wins 60/40 when you go around a corner as well.

I was waiting for someone to say that

I would love the body of an RS6 on top of a proper RWD based platform, like an E63S Wagon or Panny ST.

It is a gorgeous car though, I'll give Audi that.

It’s stunning in terms of body looking, I tested it two weeks ago but in the end of the story M5 does the same job better and faster. The only plus for Audi is the station wagon shape, with 3 kids if I were you I would definitely say RS6

I drove an RS7 last week, same drive train of the RS6
I was disappointed with the performance , but was impressed with the exterior looks
It is still a good car ,
but the M5C is a better car overall
I will say that E63S is also a better choice
I am surprised that the car is cheaper than M5C . The one I drove was 138 k sticker without CCB. It is very difficult to get an M5C to that price range without CCB
talking about brakes , they were amazing .I think 10 piston in the front and that was the most impressive thing that I liked

Fabulous car, but for the $, the F90 or E63S wagon both have it beat hands down imho

LOVE the RS6 but cost hurts its cause. Especially with the markups currently. Some dealers looking for 20k+ ADM

Next step is a test drive so that will be the decider I expect....

Re $$, the RS6 is priced almost identically to the normal M5 in HK with the M5 Comp being more $$. Standard spec is usually higher than UK cars but then price with FRT is approx double. There is little negotiation with dealers in HK and only one dealer per manufacturer so little choice apart from personally importing a UK car...

Thanks for comments and agree with all of them...Also notably I can't see such an engaged forum/ fan base either which says a lot in favour of the M5 as an enthusiast's car....

The M5 is so much better than the Audi it's not even funny. I've driven both, the M5 is faster, sharper, feels better to drive, and is a monster that will put the Audi to sleep.

Also whoever thought pink was a great accent choice for that E63S

First time poster.

Had the same dilemma, ordered a RS6 back in June. Loved the idea of a wagon since my wife had just given birth. That forced my hand with trading in my Hellcat Challenger which I adore.

The M5 caught my eye with the LCI refresh. Love the updated look. They had a competition there that I got to test drive. Fell in love at first drive. Ordered the car and got allocation in 2 weeks, so it’s on a boat in the Atlantic right now.

To make matters difficult, The Audi dealer calls, says my car is going in production in January. The nice thing was, that didn’t faze me I know I want the M5. I’ve been against the Audi design language they have gone to in the last decade, way to choppy/diagonally etc. saw the new RS7s in person and had to ask myself if I even like the design. The RS6 is great now because Rita such a novelty, but am I going to love it in a year or 2?

The M5 is low-key, well built, and the pinnacle of the 4 door sedan market. If you know cars you know the M5. When you really get down to comparing the 2, and want the ultimate, it’s the M5.

I moved from a f90 to a C8 about 3 months ago. Tbf the F90 is faster, handles better and is definitely a better drivers car. The RS6 on air is definitely more comfortable and great on the back roads. It also looks so much better than the F90, the just my opinion of course.

I'll be interested to see what you go with!

I do like Audi's and of course there is a lot to like with the RS6. However I can tell you love M5's.

If you owned the RS6 how would you feel when you see and hear "that perfect M5" drive by?

That's the type of question I ask myself when choosing a new car. The RS6 might have some short term sparkle...but long term it sounds like LCI M5 in the right spec is the way to go...

Good luck with your decision, either way feel very thankful 😁
