Congrats, beautiful spec. Same here but GT Silver, poor man's brakes, extended fuel tank.
It isn't very playful, more serious engineering exercise informed by decades of racing. (Becomes immediately obvious on track.) It's more astounding than fun, imo. I've had mine unintentionally sideways a couple of times. Even the way it does that is more controlled. Seems almost no matter what you do you're still within the framework of performance calibration, the car's capability. I've only had one go in a 458. With some revs, throttle/engine response is as sharp or sharper in the GT3?

GT3 is the most tied down I've experienced. Just some understeer management required, especially before tires are up to temp. Lost the rear in a partially damp morning session, and then with pressures running too high on spent Cup 2s. Without those types of variables, rear isn't going anywhere. Can take liberties with the throttle more than with any other platform. Feels a bit like a cheater car. Hope Humdizzle doesn't mind a bit of GT Silver spam. ![]()

Do you still own the M4 GTS too? What was the genesis for the switch? |

Congratulations on the purchase. You've now had 2 of my most desired cars (the 458 is the other one).
Just curious about your thoughts on an r8 v10 6mt? Is that a car you have much experience with, is it one you considered instead of the GT3 ?(obviously a different price point). This is a car I am considering as my garage queen, (but also debate a 981 GT4 or a 991.1 GTS or 718 GTS 4.0). You obviously enjoy real driver's cars (the 458 and GT3 manual have to be 2 of the top) and so curious about your perspective on the R8 v10 6mt. I am drawn to the instant torque and amazing throttle response and sound of the v10, but having owned 2 981 Cayman s' I also know that there is an engagement with the porsche driving experience that is rare to achieve. |

Very different car than the GT3. Much softer, more street friendly. V10 is more subdued than the 4.0 even with an exhaust and tune. Not a claim of GT3 superiority, but it really is on an island. For a variety of reasons you can't get the same experience elsewhere, which is why so many gush about them, and why the Porsche GT crowd often just rotate between the standard and RS models, some eventually a Cup car. I can understand wanting the GT3 experience or not, but I'm not aware of a close approximate. Especially in terms of driving dynamics when pushed, or nowadays if you spec a manual.

I've only driven a v10 convertible 1st gen with the e-gear trans though. My cousin has a v10 6mt coupe and loves it though. just depends on how hardcore you want your street car to be. The gt3 is about the sweet spot for me. if you can i'd try test driving a viper, r8 v10, and gallardo. dreamracing in vegas has the 1st gen r8 10 and gallado available to test drive on track.

What do you all think of the upcoming 992 911 GT3 Touring? Will the new Touring be street friendly? Or is a base 992 Turbo more street friendly? The odds of me getting a GT3 allocation may be slim and none since I'm not a previous Porsche customer, so my choice may be made for me.
I have thought about a new 2021 R8 RWD but coming from a M2 Competition, it doesn't seem that much faster. 0-60 is around 3.6 seconds, so not much faster than a M2. Plus I would be worried about buying an Audi, just read a negative review about the infotainment system on a 2020 R8 on Reddit. Another thing I worry about an R8 is that it is very much a dead end car. Supposedly the R8 will be cancelled soon and any electric replacement won't be as impressive. Plus I'm sure the Porsche dealership experience will be better. In addition, once the four year warranty is over, the replacement cost of the v10 engine will be huge (probably around $40k or so). Again nothing else in Audi's lineup interests me so the R8 is kinda a dead end car once it gets cancelled. |

i have an f80 with a bm3 tune alongside my gt3. honestly the m3 would probably give the gt3 a run for its money on a roll race. the M2 comp with a tune, downpipes, and e85 would probably pull on a new r8. But thats not the point of these cars. its the experience. You can buy a new 800hp mustang with a twin turbo kit and have it warrantied for under 70k too. straight line performance is not very expensive these days. anyone can have a 10 second car. infotainment is subjective too. my 458 had an awful infotainment setup. but i didn't care. its not why i bought the car. tech moves quick, and supercar infotainment is usually outdated in a few years. if you are worried about a 1% chance of a catastrophic engine failure i'm not sure what to tell you. i buy all my cars out of warranty when they've depreciated a bit. my 458 had no warranty all 4 years i owned it. I wouldn't worry about engine disasters with a modern supercar. i dont even plan on doing a crankhub fix on my f80 because i think its overblown on these forums.

Currently I intend to use the car as a weekend car only (100 miles a weekend). I use a beater sedan for work/shopping/groceries, etc. |

You inspired me to order a 718 Spyder. I had been looking at Turbos but I already have a 911 and wanted something more pure.

GT3 is a dream car, but well out of my price range. I'm getting things into motion to hopefully get one, but I'm worried by the time I can swing it they will be old high mileage hags.

I've been browsing GT3s since March then bought my F80, as a daily. The GT3 is still on the near term radar but need to find the right one. blender modeling
