My 2cents.
I tuned all of my Bimmers until I got this F90. For me at least, it was never about 0-60 times or any other metric, it was always about feel. I always did stage 1, so they were pretty mild, and basically just knocked the dust off the factory throttle response. It felt right as rain, and made the cars that much more enjoyable to drive. I never did any dyno runs, because I never cared.

This one feels fantastic so far though, so I have no desire to tune it…yet…

Interesting.

I've personally never tuned any of my cars because I always was satisfied with the stock power and all the rest

The throttle response on the F90 is pretty good in comfort and can be really touchy on sport+.

I agree. The power on tap, and the throttle mapping, even in comfort is fine with me. My F80, for example though, was a PIG in comfort. It felt like a Prius. A light tune made it feel like butter.

I ordered a JB4 within a week or two and a meth kit a couple of weeks later. Am looking at downpipes as the next mod. My car is CPO so I could experience its full straightline performance right away.

I never tuned any of my cars, I prefer reliability over the kick for additional power. Not even a piggyback. My opinion on tunes be it stage 1 or 2 or maybe even 3, if one does street driving, most would not drive the nuts out of it. So the engine will be fine and not blow up. Things gets very different on the track where one pushes the engine to its limits lap after lap, this is the true test of the engine's endurance if one tunes it to its limit.

I know many would swear by the tune they have and how their car has run well for years with no issues but as we all know, especially those in engineering, one engine is always different from another even if it's the same S63 we are talking about. Some might have higher endurance some might not due to different batches of materials used in making these engines, in mass production, revisions are made thru out its production life, the limit of the engine would differ and thus some engines blow easier than others.

End of the day, if you are worried, don't tune it, if you feel you need more power, get a more powerful car. Cars like these aren't cheap to buy, not to mention maintain it, if anything gives way, fixing it won't be cheap. For me I won't tune it and just leave it as it is. Money and car is yours, do whatever that brings a smile to your face. But once you start tuning it, be prepared in case something gives way. Cheers.

My F80 crankhub slipped. Enough damage in the cylinder to make a rebuild not much less expensive, so just opted for a new engine.

JB4, downpipes, 93 octane. No racing, just heavy commuting.

New engine/Gintani hub after spun crank hub https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1752927

Not many faster mid size sports sedans to buy instead. A few more powerful ones but they don’t seem to be faster. The only one I am aware of is an electric car, Tesla Model S Plaid.
