Questions for the factory - please submit

As I said earlier this month I will be lucky enought to vist the BMW E90 factory here at Rosslyn at the end of the month (July )

I would like to get a list of questions to ask the people at the factory about the E90

What would you all like me to ask ?

I will create a list of questions from those that are post here and try to get answers for as many of them as possible from the factory ( or post the answer if its known before then )

So bring on the questions

Will the September S/W update include MP3 CD capability for the E90's (UK & US Spec) with Navi?

Thanks

As discussed a detailed list of what the software updates for Sept cover. (If in fact it has any transmission fix for the slow pickup problem)

Including any updates for the NAV/IDrive.

I'm kinda curious: does the software update add RDS/Weatherband? That would be an answer to hear from the horses mouth. We all seem to be getting various versions of the answer from our dealers/bmw na.

E90Fleet,

Please see if they will give you any info on new features etc that are planned for the next round of builds (starting Sept):
- any new interior or exterior colors not already announced
- possibility of in-dash CD changer
- etc.

Thanks and have fun!

To echo previous posts, please ask about Professional Radio with iDrive/Navigation units for the following:
1) mp3 capability
2) RDS
3) WB

Also, any other updates or info on iDrive would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thank you for volunteering to do this, E90Fleet. I'm curious how they identify problems with the car once they are being purchased and how those are fed back to the factory. How long does this process typically take to both positively identify the problem, figure out an engineering solution, and implement it in the manufacturing environment? Do they constrain these to certain cycles or do they put fixes in place continually?

I guess it is not fair to ask marketing questions. Just in case you hear a stray word about 335i, touring/sport wagon engines, tweaked 268 hp 3.0l (the one mentioned for the 1 series) in a ZHP, other updates to make the USA versions of the 330i perform like its euro version, etc. we would be grateful.

Her are my questions:

1. Is the Towbar released electrically or not?

2. Do they know of any cutomer complaints about Soft-Stop? In the Manual 330i I test-drove, I tried several times to stop without easing pressure on the break-pedal, but the car stopped abruptly.

3. What's the official word regarding the CD Changer that doesn't play MP3's? Will it be replaced? If so, at whose cost?

4. When do they allocate an engine Number to an order? Before the car is assembled or at the time of assembly?

MP3 and RDS for cars with NAV
When will MP3 work in the CD Changer ( is it software or a new part needed)
Wood shortage
When the "Individual" models will be launched ( not for USA )
How many 325i will be built here for the USA, and how many have already been sent
Will playing video DVD's ever be possible for nav cars

More:
- Are we going to get the E90 330i Coupe in South Africa? This question stems from the fact that the E46 330i came in Sedan and Convertible form only for SA.

Dont know if the factory can answer this one since we only make the sedan here, thats more of a question for BMW head office here (Midrand )

But ill put it on the list anyway and see what they know

This is great. What a contrast to the drivel we are fed by the vogon cronies that write for the auto rags. Roundel has lots of useful info, but do not bother trying to find out anything controversial in between those covers. You would think they would be all over rooting out what the differences are between the euro 258hp N52s and the ones (255hp - maybe...) we are getting in the USA (wonder why C&D got good 0-60 times on their euro version???). If you hear any rumors in your hemisphere, please let us know. Probably not an issue for the SA market. I guess I should float a string on this and get bombarded with responses that they are "the same engines." We need to arrange a systematic comparison between those of you that are getting USA versions ED, and the local euro crews. That sounds like a lot of fun anyway -- heck, if the guys in Jersey can have a party, surely a pile of gringos in the Munich area could have some fun and games with our bimmer comrades on that side of things?

Anyway, I suppose I will clutter up the list with another string to this effect. Thanks, E90Fleet, for all the great info.

Here's another....

Will there be a software upgrade to enable you to close all windows/fold the mirrors in using the fob; currently as you all know we have to use the actual KEY to do this manually.

It's US software. I can close all my windows with my remote, or my comfort access patch on the doorhandle.

Any word if this software is out yet or is it apart of the Sept issue of software updates?
