If anyone needs the part numbers or PDFs for the transfer case fluid change, and/or the front and rear diffs, I have them. I was shocked how many metal filings we're in my transmission fluid pan after only 30k miles. Glad I changed it, and will be changing all of these fluids every 30k miles. So economical doing it yourself.

But, I agree with you, that those fluids aren't "lifetime" in any way. But I'm not sure BMW makes financial decisions to NOT recommend fluid replacements on those. Seems to me, they would make a lot more money making us change them at 75,000. Just my $0.02 Shawn |

This will help. Might be a plastic pan like BMW uses on some models but the ZF 8 speed is widely used — in many cars and trucks from many brands — and the process is similar for all. We have finned aluminum pans with drain plugs, which is nice.

It seems hard to find a really capable one that does not have a subscription requirement to keep the features and those subscriptions are hundreds of dollars a year. I have a Launch x431 PAD V, but it is more than you need for this.
I’d look into what the $400 Autel MX808 can do ($100 per year subscription). I used one briefly and then changed to the much more capable $1200 MS906BT that requires an annual subscription that costs as much as the MX808 alone, and then changed to the $2400 Launch x431 PAD V. The cheapest option that may have the potential is the Foxwell NT510/520/530 with the BMW specific module that you can choose and download for free when registering the product. I have had an NT510 for years and used it when changing diffs and transfer and trans fluids in my E61 535xi but am not sure whether it can do what would be needed on the F90. I have the fluids for the diffs and transfer case but have not changed them yet so I have just been gathering info on the jobs. I’ll do the trans fluid after I do those. |

PRO TIP!
I HIGHLY suggest you all add a magnetic drain plug to your diff cases!!! Troy Jeup made an IG post on his IG page about this. He shows HOW MUCH shavings can collect in there in such a short time! Protect your self and your car. add magnetic drain plugs

Don't recommend. Or at least Be careful. They can also be too long and make contact with the gears inside. Saw this issue on the X5M side of the house.

What size is the drain plug? I'm no where close to needing this service yet but like compiling data in my service logs I build.

Rear diff is M22x1.5 PN 33117525064. Not sure about front diff and transfer case. I’d probably buy magnet plugs just for the drains and not for the fills.
